London Fashion Week AW11: Sass & Bide

Who: Sass & Bide What: bold pop colours, silk draped feather print dresses and enamel necklaces. Thoughts: The first line of the show notes read, “inspired by an energetic collision of colour, texture and cultures,” which couldn’t have rounded it off any better. Generic autumnal shades were ditched in favour of vivid magenta, pop red and tangerine, and not only in the clothes – long strips of fluorescent yellow were painted onto the forearms of the models, too. To start, designer duo Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton sent out silk feather print draped dresses in monotone shades and suede fringed hems, teamed with the neon-tipped enamel feather necklaces. Pop coloured separates featured rope piping details that hung from the necklines and swung down by the shoulders. Multi-crayon coloured scalloped pieces formed a dress, zipped entirely down the centre, crop top and mini. Draped coats and dresses plummeted to the floor in brick and rust coloured suede with weaving detailing on waistbands, cuffs and sleeve heads. Cigarette cut trousers and jacket panels were covered with glittered sequins adding to the bright extravagance. Collision of cultures came in the form of silk taffeta ikats and hand-painted tie-dye wraps and shots of plaid – maybe it didn’t depict the usual traits of an autumn/winter collection, but when you’re mind is transported to a more tropical place in time, we don’t mind one bit.

London Fashion Week AW11: Bora Aksu

Who: Bora Aksu What: Traditional tailoring in modern materials, masculine separates and signature cocktail dresses. Thoughts: There was a lot of love in the room for Bora Aksu last night, and a starry front row with the likes of Twiggy and Jodie Harsh showing their support for this young designer, but his collection left little to lust-after. Playing on the contrasts of proper and improper – like that of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, he says – Aksu’s autumn collection is heavily focused on tailoring with traditional masculine-Victorian jackets, capes and bow ties set against feminine pleats and cocktail dresses, a combination which, for us, fell short for feeling awkward. Perhaps its his move towards including more separates this season – the likes of short jackets, shirts and trousers that take on an adrogynous aesthetic – but the signature cocktail dresses Bora fans know and love are still there, if in less capacity that previously. Smokey greys and stark blacks are predominant to reflect the streets of London in the late 18th century, but are broken up with the odd flash of emerald green. Creating volume and texture, leather is key to Aksu’s autumn collection, seen on piping and dresses in its own right, as well as plastic to play contrast against silks and traditional tweed. We’re not entirely convinced, but on reading the show notes, Bora’s fixture on dual identity has been used with function too – three-quarter length coats can be unfastened to become cropped jackets, details which can’t be ascertained to the eye from the runway. If this was his intention (and we’re assured it is to reinforce unseen conflicts), perhaps this is a collection that needs to be seen up close and personal. [Images]

London Fashion Week AW11: Jean-Pierre Braganza

Who: Jean-Pierre Braganza What: Structured asymmetrical tailoring, signature prints, tough leather separates and splashes of red. Thoughts: Jean-Pierre Braganza kicked off the shows at Northumberland House by sending out sharply constructed grey tailoring – asymmetrical cuts in the lapels and openings. Paired with fur collars and dramatic old school halfway poses from the models, the show started off with a gentle air, however, the clues were in the high sculpted ponytails and red blushed makeup for the dark and forbidding garments next in line. Sculpted leather dresses, skirts and cut-away jackets fixed together with rivets paired with black suede knee high boots and ribbed jersey detailing were added to oversized bombers. Blood red was introduced into the collection via a wool mini skirt and set the way for block red coats and suits. Reds then spiralled into signature prints on silk dresses and drop crotched jumpsuits. Overall, we felt as it looked a little bit like a collection we may have seen before from Jean-Pierre Braganza, but whilst it would’ve been nice to see a newer statement from him, it was a good start to the week nonetheless. New York Fashion Week: Michael Kors

Marking his 30 year career in the fashion industry, Michael Kors took centre stage in the Big Apple yesterday with his AW11 collection at New York Fashion Week. With the likes of Anjelica Huston, Debra Messing, Emma Roberts, Rene Russo, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas all sitting front row for the event, and supermodels Erin Wasson, Karlie Kloss, Carmen Kass and Chanel Iman strutting down the catwalk, it was certainly a starry show indeed. But onto the collection. With sharply tailored coats in olive green and camel hues, feminine draped dresses with silver embellishment, plenty of pillar box red fur coats and a furry handbag to match, the clothes were definitely forward in the trend department. A varied colour scheme with camel, grey, blush, nude, red, brown and black tones, the American designer’s autumn collection was full of Seventies-inspired decadence – and we, for one, think Michael Kors has truly outshone himself.

Elle Style Awards 2011 worst dressed: Jaime Winstone

Jaime Winstone arrived on the red carpet of the Elle Style Awards with a look reminiscent of a a 90s hip hop star (anyone else remember Diddy in those huge fur coats?).  She’s known for her edgy, grungy style but this is all a bit too much for us – the opaques and heels show off her legs perfectly but the balance is thrown off by the grey handbag and ginormous peacock-green coat. Still, we bet she was a lot warmer than the other scantily-clad attendees. We want to know what you think of Ms. Winstone’s look – cast your vote in our poll to have your say! [poll id=”31″]

Street Style: animal instinct

We all know it can be difficult to stay stylish when piling on the layers for a cold day, so we took to the streets with camera in hand to see how the girls on London’s Carnaby Street manage it. We couldn’t help but notice that the majority of the lovely ladies we snapped were turning to our furry friends for inspiration, sporting some fabulous faux fur and shearling. Whilst a sumptuous fur coat is a sure fire way to keep the chill at bay, we simply adored the subtler fur details on coats, hats and stoles around necks. Shearling coats were all over the place, too – from brand new pieces to vintage favourites and oversized styles in varying shades of camel and brown, we were suitably inspired by them all. Take a look at our favourites and see how they styled their luxurious layers for a serious statement.

Emma Watson in Burberry Bespoke

Emma Watson is certainly one lucky lady, but we’re not talking about her success in the motion flick Harry Potter, oh no – we mean her fashionable freebies, of course. Arriving at London’s Heathrow airport yesterday, the talented young actress was wearing none other than a custom made Burberry Bespoke trench coat – the very first person to step out in a Burberry Bespoke trench, no less – personally designed for her by the brand’s chief creative officer Christopher Bailey, naturally. The British designer opted for the brand’s signature beige trench coat, complete with black button detailing and black leather sleeves, making one seriously stylish piece of designer outerwear that we simply can’t help lusting over. The new bespoke platform will allow the integration of personally designed Burberry trench coats for those that can afford such a thing of beauty. We suppose one can always dream about a customised Burberry trench… that’s one for the post-Christmas wish-list. Image

TK Maxx open new store in London’s city

Wondering why TK Maxx stores are popping up all over the shop lately? Well, dear readers, that’s because everyone loves a bargain, especially city workers, as it happens – the designer discount store has just opened its doors to an all-new store on Gracechurch Street in the City of London. And we suggest anyone passing through the area pays a little visit, because the stock is nothing short of amazing (a statement we make with confidence, because we took a little shopping trip to see it for ourselves this week). With a Gold Label section greeting your entrance, rails of D&G, Jil Sander, Calvin Klein, Chloe, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors Accessories, among the rest, sit smugly amidst an air of I-know-you-want-to-buy-me metallic shine. A well laid-out store, in-keeping with the ‘new’ TK Maxx design, there’s an accessories floor to your right on entrance, an exclusive Gold Label section to your left and, up a few stairs, there’s an area for coats and new-season stock, a space for its new ModBox line, and an especially generous area for shoes. And if you’re shopping for men or homeware, pop downstairs, because there’s plenty more where that came from. But if you really want to know our reason for visiting, it’s time to let you into a little secret – we were sourcing samples for our Style Icon workshop at this weekend’s BNTM Live (and trust us, we’ve picked some good’uns). TK Maxx’s new store is at 33 Gracechurch Street, London EC3V 0BT – stop by if you’re in the area to bag a seriously stylish bargain.

Lunchtime buy: Warehouse Dip Dye Mongolian Wool Gilet

Probably one of the most cost efficient purchases you can make this month. All kinds of faux/ real furs, wools, feathers and plumage graced the runways back in February as a precursor to our Autumn/ Winter wardrobes, and this gilet defines the look. The gilet is also ideal for our in between season malarkey, one which has left us too warm for bulky jackets and coats but too cold for one top or cardigan – layering is the key. It can work with most items in your wardrobe – no excuses; simply wear over dresses, blouses, long or short sleeved tops to keep in some extra warmth as the weather turns chilly.  The colour also meshes well with jeans, shorts, skirts and patterns so it really is a classic piece for our wardrobes this season, and one that can be worn year after year, throughout Autumn, Winter and Spring. It will also take you from the office to a hot date in evening, and from weekend shopping to a night out with the girls, a real timeless piece. So why not wear a hug and look trendy at the same time? Lunchtime buy: Little Marc Jacobs Ink Blue Coat With Bow

Gossip Girl hit our screens again this week and to celebrate we feel this little Marc Jacobs coat in Ink Blue is a great starter for any back to school wardrobe. The coat is a great all occasion number and can be worn with school, casual and evening wear, guaranteed to make our mini Blair stand out in the playground. We especially love the dark blue ink tone of the coat as it works well with many a item varying from jeans, skirts and dresses, without appearing too summery. The bow also adds instant prep appeal, and would look great with a matching black bow Alice band or hairclip. Mittens would be the gloves of choice for the coat, and while black tights, shoes, mittens and hair accessories will match the bow detailing do not feel you need to stick with this palette. Coloured tights, mittens and hats would also be a very fun and preppy way to stay stylish – however do not use more than two colours at a time. It is also great value for money as it is made from 80% wool and only 20% nylon, and has a quilted inner lining for extra warmth; we wish we looked this cosy and fashionable when we were little… Little Marc Jacobs Girls Ink Blue Coat With Bow, £153, available at AlexandAlexa. How to wear it: the camel coat

In keeping with fashion’s turn towards a more minimalist aesthetic, a classic camel coat should be your ultimate investment for autumn. It’s a style staple that’ll stand the test of time, but it’s never been more sought-after than this season – softly tailored, slightly androgynous but with a very ladylike finish, it’ll transform your workwear wardrobe and balance your tough leathers. We love Carven’s double breasted wool coat which, if you remember, we featured as one of our 10 hottest items last week. Finishing at the knee with puffed shoulders, pleat detailing at the back and two flap pockets at the side, Carven’s camel coat is the ultimate in understated luxury – and the skinny leather belt adds a new-season twist to the traditional style, too. But if you want to know how to keep your camel coat looking fit for the new season, we’ve got a few tips on how to wear it… Renewal Levi’s 501 Turn Up Denim Shorts, £28, Urban Outfitters For a truly contemporary take on this classic style, work your camel coat belted up with bare legs, but opt for something pared down underneath for a great contrast when you want to wear it undone – a silk shirt tucked into high-waisted down-town denim makes for the perfect luxe-meets-cool combo. Carvela Sophia Boot in black patent, £150, Kurt Geiger A pair of patent leather ankle boots will show you mean business, and will toughen up the soft camel colour of your coat. We love Carvela’s Sophia boot for a subtly-sleek but edgy look. Leopard Leather Shoulder Bag, £40, Topshop Embrace your inner animal and inject some new-season cool into your camel coat by way of a leopard print bag – not only does the print compliment the neutral tone, it also adds a bit of […]

Lunchtime buy: Etoile Isabel Marant Quidor hooded trench

Well well, hasn’t Isabel Marant gone and done it this time? Just as we thought we’d seen all the great autumn coats to chose from this year, we catch a glimpse of this olive-hued trench, and all bets are off. The thing we love most is the attention to detail by Marant – from wooden buttons off-setting the muted shades to the flattering arrangements of the pockets and the contrasting turn-up of the cropped sleeves. The oversized lapels look cosy for facing those harsh British winds, and as an added bonus, the hood is detachable to work with all our weather worries. These days a coat needs to work for our money, and at 40% off its original price, this one definitely does. Men’s Fashion Week Round up, Milan: Day 2

Continuing our round-up of Men’s fashion week in Milan, we move on to Sunday 20th June with more highlights from the top designers. Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta presented a chic and luxurious but extremely wearable collection, with ultra relaxed suiting in bright whites, earthy burgundies and deep blues. When jackets were double breasted they were cut slightly loose and worn with low slung, almost slouchy trousers for a chic, laid back look. The single breasted ensembles were closer fitted in shades of stone and putty, but still worn with an air of relaxed nonchalance. We also saw a great section of spring-time khakis and burnt terracottas, with rolled up shorts, open funnel neck shirts and a very short pair of deep brown leather shorts. Emporio Armani It was sleek, sexy and fierce at Emporio Armani with lots of leather, sheer panels, crocodile print and a few chains here and there too. Models wore fitted leather trousers, sometimes slashed, sometimes crocodile print, mixed with leather waistcoats, sheer shirts and beguiling eye makeup. The show had a monochrome feel, with most looks either all black, all white, or a mix of varied grey-blues. At its softest the collection showed looser tailored trousers in a two-tone bluish fabric mixed with a sheer shirting and a ultra short sleeved blazer. Closely fitted tapered cropped trousers in light tones were worn with ankle length crocodile skin pointed boots and paired with tailored waistcoats in powder and egg-shell blue. Gianfranco Ferre There was a distinct gentlemanly vibe to this resort-feel collection of broad shouldered, slightly boxy blazers in luxurious twill cottons and light pinstripes. Alongside the more classic suiting looks there were also louche touches with two-tone geometric print shorts and blazers in shades of gold and blue. The colour palette picked up on one of […]

Men’s Fashion Week Round up, Milan: Day 1

Men’s fashion week officially started on Saturday, and with some of the biggest designers opting to broadcast their catwalk show via live streaming it’s been quite exciting so far. Here we bring your our series of round ups, starting with Day 1, Saturday 19th June. Costume National Homme At Costume National Homme the show was a mix of relaxed tailoring and luxe separates, from city shorts to lightweight trenches that started in light camel tones and moved gradually into soft taupes, to a sharper look that saw slate grey suiting contrasted against nude sheer layers. Suiting was cut slightly away from the body so the look was defined but relaxed, and we saw a mix of double and single breasted jackets as well as wearable trenches and shorter bomber style jackets. Dolce and Gabbana It was the 20th anniversary men’s show in Milan for SS11 and it was white heat on the catwalk, as the show opened with male models dressed head to toe in white ensembles while Annie Lennox played as an accompaniment. The collection went on to include lightweight suiting in classic darker tones before moving into a laid-back Riviera section that included cotton pinstripe shirts worn open and relaxed, mixed with rolled up trousers that were gathered at the waist and tied with rope-belts. Coarser fabrics that included hessian and heavy cotton mixes were used to achieve a more pared-down approach to luxe dressing before the show concluded with a host of super-suited men in the classic Dolce and Gabbana silhouette. Watch the catwalk show here. Calvin Klein Collection Calvin Klein Collection presented a very streamlined sports feel collection that included slim fit suiting in two-tone fabrics as well as luxe nude shades. At the sportier end of the spectrum Calvin Klein Collection showed cropped jersey tops […]

180 years of Woolrich

Known for their rich heritage of quality outdoor wear and signature range of plaid jackets and woolen work-wear, Woolrich isn’t exactly the kind of lust-after brand we’re used to. But this year they celebrate 180 years of the brand and to mark the occasion they have released a special limited edition anniversary collection – and let us tell you, it’s really rather cool. The capsule collection for AW10 comprises just 17 pieces for men and women with only 180 pieces produced for each item. And just so you know you’re getting a true collectable every piece has been individually numbered with anniversary labelling. The styles, which include a great ranch style plaid jacket and the classic ‘Charley Brown’ jacket, have been taken from the depths of the Woolrich archives and have been re-worked for a contemporary look. We love the original images from the archives which accompany the latest interpretations of the pieces – especially loving the couple in matching outfits. The traditional outdoor wool and shearling Ranch coat that they are sporting so well has been re-worked in Woolrich’s signature red plaid with a shearling collar and real horn buttons. It’s a really wearable on-trend piece and these kind of coats are going to be everywhere come next season so getting a true heritage piece will put you one step ahead of the rest. The ‘Charley Brown’ jacket was a favourite with fans throughout the 60s – 80s and with a tagline – ‘Where the girls are is where the Charley Brown is’ – we can see why. Featuring handpicked archive fabrics, chamois suede collar and cuffs and cashmere lining this jacket is a great investment buy for AW that will be a real heritage piece. The Woolrich AW10 heritage collection will be available to next season via the […]

Next AW10 press day

Look at the picture above. It’s nice, isn’t it? It’s also Next. Surprised? We were. But now we’re excited. When we think of Next we think of, er… nothing, really. Nothing all that directional, nothing all that trend-led, and nothing all that stylish – just something our mum’s might like. Well, way to go and win us over, Next – this is exactly why we don’t feel bad about being so frank, and why we know you won’t mind either, because what you’re offering next season is nothing short of great. Lovely, pretty, trend-led, catwalk-inspired, is-that-really-Next? type great. Similar brands, take note: we’re looking at a great example of how a pretty standard we-appeal-to-your-mum-and-your-aunt type brand can appeal to the super stylish daughters and nieces, too. But enough of the metaphorical stuff, let’s give you a brief run down of what we saw – and what you’re going to love – from Next come autumn. Leather: leather shorts, leather skirts and leather T-shirts (yes, really) – we were particularly taken with a caramel suede skirt with brown leather-trimmed pockets; very Celine. Lace and chiffon: a gorgeous earth-green buttoned lace shirt reminiscent of Erdem and a darling embroidered cream lace top that made for a very convincing vintage piece both caught our eye, while sheer chiffon blouses and pussy-bow dresses appealed to our romantic side as much as the next Jake Gyllenhaal. Coats: we spied an olive green military pea coat which was rather Sergeant Pepper, but we have to go all seasonal and say the dark brown leatherette shearling aviator jacket was an absolute winner – it’s one of the best Burberry-inspired high street versions we’ve seen, and for £75 it’s one of the better priced, too. Accessories: a faux fur tote – no doubt a reference to Chanel’s yetti […]

My-Wardrobe press day AW2010

The showroom at the My-Wardrobe press day was jam-packed with fashion-hungry bloggers, making it one of the busiest (and therefore hottest!) autumn/winter events we’ve attended over recent weeks. It was also one of our favourites, as we got to see first-hand, some of the great pieces that the online store will be getting in next season. First up, we saw the results of the much anticipated collaboration between Barbour and Anya Hindmarch. Not only do the coats feature the cute Anya Hindmarch bow logo, which is stitched into the quilted exterior, but you’ll also find novel inside pockets designed especially for lipstick, loose change and your phone (or ‘Dog & Bone’, we should say)! As expected for the autumn/winter collections, there was a major focus on jackets and coats. We loved the military-inspired, long coat from Bllack Noir and the Burberry-esque leather aviator jacket from Nicole Fahri. Acne came up trumps too, with an unusual cropped number in a range of sumptuous and contrasting fabrics that just begged to be touched. One of the things we get excited about when viewing AW2010 collections is seeing the kind of boots that we’ll soon be fighting to get our mits on. Surprisingly enough, UGG Australia have really upped their game for next season and we were pleasantly shocked when we discovered the brand behind the clog-inspired boot, which features an on-trend, shearling fold-over panel. Never one to disappoint on the boot front, Acne impressed again with a huge, wedged platform – perfect for the rock-chic look with its striking, ‘unfinished’ zip feature and entirely leather outer. As you might have noticed from the pics of the Nicole Richie/My-Wardrobe dinner held last week, the House of Harlow 1960 collection from Nicole Richie features a range of flat, suede booties complete with beaded embellishment. London College of Fashion BA Catwalk Show

Last night saw the recent London College of Fashion Design and Technology BA graduate fashion show showcasing a host of future design stars, held at its new location of The Dairy in central London. Each of the 26 graduating designers presented their debut collection in a full-force fashion show, attended by a packed audience which included Edith Bowman, Mr Hudson, Diana Vickers and Harold Tillman. There was a strong menswear presence on the catwalk with Amber Siegel’s collection showing a mix of tailored evening pieces and luxe-feel outerwear in inky and charcoal tones with subtle fur trims. Also notable were Jade Jung Sun Kim’s display of neutrals with jodhpur inspired leg-wear and over-sized funnel necks, as well as Matthew Coats’ take on re-worked shirting and separates. The coveted Collection of the Year award went to menswear designer Nattaphon Sampataphakdee from Thailand, whose tailored menswear collection was inspired by French photographer Henri Cartier-Breeson and featured multi-panelled suiting in a mix of neutral and grey tones, a long tailored overcoat, and slim-fit slightly cropped trousers. Other awards went to womenswear designer Karishma Shahani for Fashion Textiles, the Design and Technology award went to Yelena Loguiiko for her beautiful folklore inspired collection, and Vilvin Sabu was was awarded for Best use of Embellishment. We don’t know about you, but we’re putting our orders in already…

House of Fraser press day AW2010

For autumn/winter 2010, major department store House of Fraser presented their clothes and accessories in different trend-led categories, mixing the labels to give a clearer vision of the kind of image we can expect from the store next season. The ‘Twilight’ category – whilst appropriately acknowledging the popular teen phenomenon -showed off a gothic approach that will cater for the younger market but also featured some wearable separates that will appeal to many a buyer. Revealing a mainly dark palette, key pieces included a black lace halter-neck dress (reminiscent of Prada, fall 2008) from Pied a Terre and cobweb style pullovers from the store’s new house brand, Label Lab. Throw biker jackets and a particularly lovely bag from Ted Baker and you’ve got a strong, laid-back collection of differing textures to create that romantic, vampy look. As we perused the ‘Wild Things’ rack we noticed a distinct nod to Topshop’s brilliant autumn/winter 2010 catwalk, with heavy neutral knits, faux fur and a gorgeous shearling waterfall coat from Therapy. Fluid lines were broken up with a selection of skinny jeans from Linea Weekend and J Brand. Clothing on the ‘Pantomime’ and ‘Vamp’ rails focussed on polished glamour and party-inspired pieces, achieving a more demure and grown up look. Linea’s navy blue shift and Episode’s vibrant red dress, suggest that velvet will be a continuing trend for next season while exquisite statement jewellery from the likes of Erickson Beamon, Mawi and newcomer Fiona Paxton, prove that bolder is better. The ‘Utility’ section offered perhaps our favourite selection of clothes; most notably a heavy duty trench and a jumpsuit, both from Label Lab. There’s plenty of leather on show too. Not only in the shape of biker jackets and Burberry-style aviator coats but more sophisticated silhouettes. Linea have produced a leather skirt and […]

Brand spanking new beauty products to lust over!

With new products coming out all the time – moisturiser, massage oil and mascara all clump together to create a big bunch of things that I know exist and should be doing great things for my hair and skin, but I simply don’t understand (or have the time to learn)!  In an attempt to look better, feel better and be better, we’ve gone through all latest beauty products – to bring you the crème de la crème – more simply put, the ones actually worth spending money on! Philip’s Lumea is the answer to the irritating habit we call shaving and the pain of waxing. Exclusive to Boots, it’s the d-i-y way to instant laser treatment!! Whilst quite pricey at £400 – it’s a sure way to say goodbye to unwanted hair – forever!! It uses IPL technology to kill the root of the hair and whilst this sounds painful – it’s not. Think of it as a static shock that’s going to leave you silky smooth (after 4 treatments) forever!! This second product is by far my favourite – diamonds may be a girl’s best friend – but 22 carat gold in your lip gloss is whole new playing field! No 7’s Limited edition Sun Drenched Lip glosses have exactly this – gold flecks that you apply to your lips turning the Emperor’s New clothes from fairy tale to fact. At £10 each, they’re only available until 13th July, so get them while you can!! Going for gold – not quite as literally as No7, but still managing to turn your skin from pearly white to sun kissed and bronze is Rodial’s Brazillian Tan Daily. The slow build up is the perfect way to avoid sun streaked skin and the coconut smell leaves you thinking, little umbrella, pina colada, […]

Boutique by Jaeger Press Day

Get ready for a new lust-have label to add to your list as British heritage brand Jaeger plan to launch their new Boutique range. We went along to their press day recently to take a look at this hotly anticipated new collection as well as having a peek at their mainline offerings for the new season. Inspired by their iconic 60s young Jaeger range the collection has been re-interpreted for today’s modish young Londoner. Boasting the quality and fabrics of the Jaeger we know so well, the Boutique line adds a contemporary rock-n-roll vibe to this classic British brand. An array of trousers, dresses, blouses, jackets and coats in tailored wool, laminated tweed, electric-blue silks and edgy prints make for a surprising yet totally covetable collection. It manages to marry sixties spirit with a contemporary edge without losing sight of Jaeger’s rich heritage. What’s most exciting is that the collection really speaks to a younger buyer with trend driven pieces in dazzling fabrics and retro styling. While the pricing is 30-50% less than their mainline offerings, the price tag at Jaeger Boutique is still a little steep for the twenty-something crowd they’re aiming to capture. There’s no doubt we’ll fall in love with it, but it may be a case of one investment piece once in a while rather than a must-have off the rail purchase every week. Although that electric blue silk dress is doing a good job of persuading me to ignore the bills and buy it anyway…

H! by Henry Holland launch party

So we’ve been pretty excited about Henry Holland for Debenhams for a while, but never more so than now. We popped down to his H! by Henry Holland launch on Tuesday evening for a sneak preview of what’s to come next spring. Full of high hopes though we were, we had our anxieties , Debenhams may well have a roster of big name designers (Betty Jackson, Matthew Williamson, John Rocha), but Henry Holland’s a little different , he’s younger, quirkier and, dare we say it, a tad cooler , would it really work?

First look: Kate Moss for Topshop Christmas collection

Getting in the festive spirit when we’re still in October poses a few problems for us, but we’ve seen something that might just help us: Kate Moss for Topshop Christmas collection. And it launches tomorrow. Her previous Christmas collections have left us a little unsure, but this one has definitely got our attention. The collection offers an assortment of luxurious oriental-inspired pieces for day and evening wear that have been designed to make you feel fabulously festive… and a little exotic. Influenced by traditional Chinese and Japanese clothing, the collection fuses the old with the new as silk dresses take on an A/W09 update with gunmetal lurex knitwork and chiffon blouses promise prints of bamboo, lotus flowers and fireworks to reflect the richness of the orient. Basic knitwear is given a glamorous edge with lurex striped shrugs and sequinned knit waistcoats, and Kate brings her laid-back rock ‘n’ roll glamour to key pieces including a sequinned bandeau maxi dress, a strapless mini embellished with black mesh petals and gold beads, an ostrich feather-sleeved shift dress and a one-shouldered long-sleeved oriental sequinned dress – our favourite piece. It all sounds so sumptuous, doesn’t it? But the Christmas collection plays it cool, too, following on from last season with sharp tailoring in the form of pencil skirts and Victoriana jackets. What’s exciting this time, though, is not only the return of Kate’s vintage-inspired silk and chiffon lingerie, which will preview exclusively online but the debut of her luxury nightwear. We’re eyeing up the floral silk pyjamas that come in a matching drawstring bag, perfect Christmas present, anyone? “I love beautiful nightwear, it makes you feel great, said Kate, who recently starred in James Brown’s documentary. I’ve collected millions of vintage slips, nighties, camis and bed jackets. Who doesn’t want fab nightwear for […]

London Fashion Week SS10: John Rocha

When the show started the music that boomed out of the speakers really reflected the mood of the piece; romantic influence with a definite contempory vibe. The, models wore dresses that looked like feathers, ethereal feather-like head pieces, billowing fabrics that fell on their tiny frames in a floaty, flowing way, perfect for a hot summers day. Some garments had embellishments that were beautifully modest; sequins or large rock gems peeking out behind a layer of beautifully coloured fabric.

Yasmin Le Bon for Wallis

Yasmin Le Bon is world renowned for her beauty, her 80’s pop icon husband and now her new collection for Wallis. Wallis has previously had the reputation of an older woman’s brand, but Yasmin Le Bon’s first collection will most definitely put Wallis into the fore-front of high street fashion. When entering the show room there were two things that caught my eye. Number 1- The beautiful burgundy, backless goddess dress that gave me immediate envy of the mannequin that was dressed in it.
