Our top 5 Toms picks you need right now!

Fashion becomes even more fun when it’s not just about indulging – something the Toms brand can attest to. Founded in 2006 by American traveller Blake Mycoskie after befriending Argentinian children who had no shoes to wear, Toms introduced the One for One scheme; for every pair of Toms purchased, MyCoskie’s company produces a pair of new shoes for a child in need. After realizing the One for One model of giving could benefit those in need in other ways, Toms Eyewear was introduced. With every pair of sunglasses purchased, TOMS helps give sight to a person in need. And so far, Toms has given over 10 million pairs of shoes to children in need, in  over 60 countries, and restored the sight of over 150,000 people through purchases of Toms Eyewear since 2011. The latest addition to the One for One initiative is Toms Roasting Co; with every bag of coffee purchased, TOMS will provide one week of clean water to a person in need. Although the company is most famous for its classic slip-ons in a dizzying variety of colours and designs, Toms has branched out into other footwear styles. Everything from wedge boots to ballet flats are now part of the line-up, and all serve the same purpose as the original design. How to Accessorize White Clothing

The summer season is almost here, and many people are ready for lighter shades of clothing. Instead of layering bulky pieces of clothing, they might consider a simple white shirt with shorts. Also, some women might wear a white dress. These options are more comfortable for the hotter temperatures. However, they can lack interest without accessories. Fortunately, it is easy to wear a few necklaces, bracelets, or a fun hat to make the most of your summer white clothing. In particular, the following suggestions will help you accessorize your white ensembles. Pendant Necklaces When you are wearing a white dress or shirt, you should consider wearing accessories that are more visual. A simple necklace will not stand out against a basic t-shirt. However, a beautiful pendant necklace will be more noticeable and create interest with your outfit. Even better, this added bulk does not create warmth with your outfit. Therefore, you will still be able to breathe when it’s hot outside. Layering Necklaces If you do not like the idea of statement necklaces, layering them might be a good option for you. You can wear these at different lengths along your neck. They are designed to coordinate together. However, they usually do not look exactly the same. When worn correctly, they can create a nice juxtaposition that is fashion forward. Wrap Bracelets When you are wearing a basic white outfit, it is difficult to overdo it with your accessories. This is why wrap bracelets look so great during the summertime. Chanluu’s wrapped bracelets here are usually a mixture of beads and leather and go far beyond your traditional bracelet. The detailing on them is intricate and beautiful. Many women pair them with other bracelets to create a unique combination that is unlike anyone else’s. However, wrap bracelets can also be […]

Wanted to snap up a luxurious Tom Ford piece but couldn’t be bothered to leave your house or even your sofa? Well that’s no longer going to be a problem, as the designer has just launched a chic new e-commerce site! “I have waited patiently to introduce e-commerce until I felt the foundation of the brand was well established offline,” Tom Ford said. “We now have 98 retail locations worldwide and the online store is an extension of them: it is a beautiful online space that carries exceptionally crafted, hand made products and offers superlative service.” We have to say that we are pretty excited to have one easy and convenient location to browse at/drool over luxury fashion. The site – which features both menswear and womenswear – has everything from handbags to sunglasses and even all the make-up and fragrances too. Unfortunately for us Brits, the website doesn’t ship to the UK just yet (sad face!) but watch this space… [Marie Claire]

Five minutes With Heidi Gosman – Founder Of Heidi Klein

The prospect of packing your suitcase and jetting off to sunnier shores is exciting no end, but when it comes to perfecting that beach wardrobe, do you really give it enough thought? My Fashion Life caught up with swimwear supremo Heidi Gosman, the name behind luxury holiday wear brand, Heidi Klein, to discuss hideaway holiday spots, beach beauty essentials and the secret to ensure your holiday wardrobe is as sizzling as your vacay destination: Describe your perfect capsule holiday wardrobe? The perfect holiday capsule is well-thought out, with bikinis that can be easily mixed and matched, or paired with some lightweight kaftans; an oversized white shirt is a must pack, a large sunhat and a great pair of sunglasses to protect you when out in the sun. What was the inspiration behind the spring/summer 2014 collection? The inspiration for each story in the collections comes from our travels to beautiful places around the world, and also from those places we have yet to visit. The spring/summer 2014 collection embraces a modern twist feel this season, with sharp contrasts and bold colour harmonies running across both swimwear and cover ups. What swimwear styles would you recommend for our readers who may not feel bikini confident this holiday season? Instead of hiding or masking areas you don’t like, enhance areas you do like and wear your bikini with confidence. Choose a colour that suits your skin tone. I always recommend getting a spray tan before buying your swimwear, so you can choose the right shade for when you’ve got your holiday bronze. Consider the destination and style your wardrobe to suit the location. The Heidi Klein Control One Piece in Vamizi and Persia is perfect for the fuller figure, nipping in the waist, supporting the bust and creating a beautiful silhouette.  It is made […]

Kit Harington for Jimmy Choo

It’s all about the ad campaigns this morning. First we told you that Clémence Poésy is returning for Chloé, and now it’s just been announced that Game of Thrones hunk Kit Harington will be the new face of Jimmy Choo.  The 27-year-old British actor will reportedly be the face of the brand new Jimmy Choo Man fragrance which launches in September this year, and also star in ad campaigns for shoes, bags and sunglasses in partnership with Carrera. He’s going to be a very busy boy indeed! “Kit perfectly embodies the Jimmy Choo man,” said creative director Sandra Choi. “He has a natural and alluring masculinity and an effortless sense of style. His cool attitude and smouldering sensuality belie a true British gentleman.” We couldn’t agree more. And he’s pretty easy on the eye too, in case it wasn’t obvious… [Harper’s Bazaar]

Rihanna vs. Keira Knightley…Who wore Chanel better?

Being a Paris Fashion Week stalwart, the hype and excitement surrounding Kaiser Karl’s seasonal offerings at Chanel knows no bounds. So, naturally, we expect nothing short of a super-stellar front row attendance, too Involved in a fierce frock-off this week are Keira Knightley and Rihanna, and you know it doesn’t get more bring-your-A-game than this pair of Chanel darlings. Arriving at the autumn/winter 2014 show in Paris, both ladies rocked waist-accentuating numbers, making it pretty damn difficult to pick between the two! Although she’s clarified that she won’t repeat-wear her Chanel wedding dress, Keira Knightley still brought all the ‘double C’ charm to the front row. Dressed in a monochromatic cropped dress, her tiny waist made for the main attraction, beautifully accompanied by pointed gold pumps and a teensy chain-strap Chanel bag, natch. But, intent on stealing the show (as always), Rihanna bumped up the chic levels in a lilac dress of similar style. Bringing her own brand of quirk to the look, RiRi mixed it up with matching bum bag and the shoe-cessory du jour: sneakers. Rounding off her look were retro-inspired cat-eye sunglasses and an oversized pearl bracelet. So, whose look is worthy of stealing the front row Queen (C) Bee crown? Tough one, isn’t it? Given both ladies subscribe to completely opposite schools of style, we can’t forget Mr. Lagerfeld encourages a pretty-gone-hyper-cool approach to fashion. So, inevitably, Mademoiselle RiRi takes the style crown this week. Whose look wins for you? [Images: Rihanna; Keira]

Rihanna is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada

After fashion killin’ it (‘scuse the pun) on the Balmain and Chanel front row, Rihanna took a, well, turn for the worse at the Miu Miu autumn/winter 2014 show earlier this week. Debuting a car crash of a look from the Prada autumn/winter 2014 collection, the far-from-bashful Barbadian paired this rather outré chill-blocker with a deep-cut, chevron-print sweater and thigh-high black stockings. As always, RiRi wasn’t short of an award-winning repertoire of accessories, pairing the look with black sunglasses, a statement ear cuff, purple neck scarf and a deep red lip. Black ankle-strap sandals and a healthy dose of the Take Care singer’s famed air-of-don’t-care rounded of yet another naturally eccentric front row look. But even a round-up of fitting accoutrements couldn’t save this look; there’s just too much going on here – even by Rihanna’s standards! So far this season, what have you made of Rihanna’s frenzied show appearances? Given her star is far from small, and top designers dress her all the time, is her attendance, or rather, lack of punctuality, at shows too much of a distraction? Has to be said, though: fashion month wouldn’t be half as much fun without the Only Girl In The World who’d dare to flash an ample amount of boobage, strategically covered with a fur snood. Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Moschino, Fendi, Prada & more

We have no idea why Milan Fashion Week isn’t as popular as New York, London or Paris, because the latest collections to debut on the Italian catwalks were out of this world. We don’t think Giorgio Armani is going to have too much of a tough time getting support for MFW if the latest shows from Moschino, Prada, Fendi and Just Cavalli were anything to go by. Jeremy Scott’s first collection for Moschino was always going to be an interesting one, and we definitely think he met expectations and pulled a stellar collection – and catwalk show – out the bag! Jeremy Scott showcased everything from a revamped McDonalds logo to everyone’s favourite little underwater creature, Spongebob Squarepants, to all-else in-between. Katy Perry and Rita Ora showed no signs of a hangover – despite partying until the wee hours of the morning after attending the Brits – as they were the modelling guests of honour on the Moschino autumn/winter 2014 catwalk. The ladies stole the show as they strutted down the catwalk to take their well-deserved seats in the front row to watch the rest of the new-season pieces make their debut. If they ever fancy a career change, we definitely think they have what it takes to make it big in the modelling world! If we could take only two things away from the Fendi autumn/winter 2014 show, it would be the Karl Lagerfeld doll/handbag which Cara Delevingne (who was walking exclusively for Fendi, may we add) carried down the catwalk, Georgia May Jagger’s outfit. We love GMJ at the best of times, but her appearance on the Fendi catwalk was above and beyond anything we could have ever expected. Kaiser Karl himself described the Fendi collection as brutal and poetic, and we definitely got that memo given all the […]

Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Gucci, Alberta Ferretti, Versus Versace & more

Time to watch the unveiling of the autumn/winter 2014 trends from behind our computer screens, as London Fashion Week is well and truly over (sniff) and the fack pack has now flocked to Italy for Milan Fashion Week! Milan certainly doesn’t mess about, as it’s straight down to business on day 1 with collections from Gucci, Alberta Ferretti, Versus Versace and Fausto Puglisi. Gucci went in a little bit of a different direction this season, as Frida Giannini took inspiration from the boys – more specifically, the Gucci menswear collection – for the autumn/winter 2014 threads. She juxtaposed her most androgynous garments with the girliest of pieces for a versatile, retro collection.   Gone was the overt sexiness that we’ve come to know from the brand – especially if last season was anything to go by – and a softer, vintage collection was in its place. Soft pink oversized coats, geek chic glasses, slim fit trousers in a super-flattering silhouette, mod-inspired outerwear, the lot. Alberta Ferretti was influenced by nature for her latest collection, trees, leaves, and bird feathers all made an appearance on her new-season pieces.  It wasn’t all woodland inspired though, as typical Alberta embellishments, sequins and silhouettes were also present, making for another versatile and somewhat wholly wearable collection. Fausto Puglisi was clearly inspired by the Big Apple, as the Statue of Liberty made several appearances on t-shirts and jumpers alike. The designer presented a casual cool collection for the effortlessly chic and stylish Fausto Puglisi girl; fun, flirty, body confident girls with everything to live for! And then we had Donatella Versace’s efforts for the Versus Versace autumn/winter 2014 collection. Donatella’s influence was very much present in the entire collection, which you can see with the tight leather dress and leather biker jacket. Typical rock and roll […]

Golden Globe Awards Bring Electronic Cigarettes into the Spotlight

Electronic cigarettes are now treading a familiar path to many fashionable items – being brought into the spotlight by celebrities, criticised by the Government and authorities and then seeing their popularity rise subsequently. The small electronic devices and celebrities who used them at the recent awards ceremony, used by so many as alternatives to traditional cigarettes, are now being chastised by US senators who claim that a poor example is being set for younger viewers. As the camera panned over the assembled crowd of TV and film stars, both Leonardo DiCaprio and Julia Louis-Dreyfus were snapped puffing away on electronic cigarettes, much to the chagrin of the senators concerned that young viewers would immediately replicate this behaviour. In a somewhat bemusing admittance, little to nothing was said about the innumerate celebrities who were spotted quaffing the complimentary wine and champagne – apparently not such a bad example for the youth. One of the great advantages of the electronic cigarette is that it can be used inside many public buildings due to the fact that they are not combustible and contain no tobacco. This is far from the first time that Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted using his trusty electronic cigarette. Having been captured vaping (the electronic cigarette equivalent of smoking) on a number of his film sets, DiCaprio is even believed to have tried to introduce his friend Robert Pattison to e cigs last year. It was a busy night for the star of The Wolf of Wall Street, who walked away with a best actor award. The critical senators however cannot suggest that Louis-Dreyfus was making the most of her celebrity to promote electronic cigarettes with footage showing the ex-Seinfeld star, sporting large Holly Golightly sunglasses indoors, refusing to have her picture taken with Reese Witherspoon whilst vaping. A […]

Fergie is Worst Dressed of the Week

Yes, we’ve just come out of the thick of the party season, and past a certain level of drinking, style inhibitions unsurprisingly seem to vanish. So, when we spotted Fergie selfie-ing it up on Instagram in this rather garish ensemble, well, we had to comment. Headed for what seems like a Studio 54-themed New Year’s Eve bash, Fergie wore a black sequin jumpsuit-cum-leotard-with-leggings, topped off with a monstrous green shaggy (faux?) fur coat. Ample cleavage was on show, and the accessories for the night included a pair of cat-eye sunglasses (in the dark; how Kanye is she?!), and platform heels. Deliberate fancy dress, or just her ode to the disco theme, we don’t know; but we’ve seen Fergie rock far better looking outfits than this one! Guess we can blame this particular wardrobe malfunction on the New Year bubbly cheer, if not anything else. Honestly, Fergie, a knockout white suit à la Bianca Jagger would’ve sufficed y’know. What do you make of Fergie’s OTT look? Yay or nay? Sorry, Fergs, but this one certainly tops our Worst Dressed of the Week list! [Image]

Staying Stylish on the Slopes

The ski season is finally here! If you’re hitting the slopes in the next few months you’ll want to know how you can stay warm and dry whilst also staying on top of the latest trends. The basic stuff Before we start looking at styles it’s important to outline that there are certain essentials that you have to wear whilst skiing or else you will freeze! You will need to wear layers under your ski jacket – normally some kind of thermal, another thin layer and a warm, insulating outer layer like a fleece or jumper. Remember that if you stop for a break or lunch you’ll probably be taking your jacket off so people will see this layer. You’ll also need gloves, a hat and goggles (you won’t need them every day, depending on the weather, but you should have them available) and ski socks as a minimum and something warm to snuggle up in in the evenings, like a cuddly onesie! The fun stuff In the past few years ski attire has really stepped up and now it’s easy to find a ski jacket that will cater for all the practical needs you require on the slopes and make you look good. Whether you want to embrace the street style set by snowboarders or keep things sophisticated with furs and simple colours there are plenty of options out there. This jacket from The North Face is the perfect example of a timeless, elegant ski jacket which will stay fashionable for a number of seasons. Sypder have put together a similar faux fur jacket which could easily double up as a warm option on a chilly day in the city. If you want something which reflects the street style that the slopes are starting to embrace then try something […]

5 Gifts That Are For Life, Not Just For Christmas

The season of giving is upon us; a time when most of us can be found running around the shops in a panic and drowning in sea of bath salts, posh chocolates and wrapping paper. But wouldn’t it be nice to give a gift which is a little more meaningful this year? Many Christmas gifts end up abandoned in their box, returned, lost or used up by the time the following Christmas comes around. So instead of giving something temporary or superfluous, why not give a gift which will truly last a lifetime? Whether it is for your other half, a close family member or even your best friend, here are a few Christmas gift ideas which your loved ones will be able to enjoy for years to come. 1. Jewellery Giving a gift of jewellery is recognised by many as being synonymous with commitment, and this is partly because of how long this gift will last. There are thousands of jewellery designs out there, allowing you to truly personalise their gift by choosing the recipient’s favourite colour, favourite jewel, or a design which means something to you both. You can even go a step further and get your own message engraved, perhaps on the inside of a bracelet or ring. This gift isn’t just limited to the ladies either – for a man in your life, consider some sterling silver cufflinks or perhaps a timeless designer watch. 2. Waxed Jacket For the fashion lovers out there, what could be better than a statement piece for their wardrobe which is truly timeless? A waxed jacket from The Highlands Store could be just the thing. Each of their jackets is still hand made at their workshop in the small UK coastal town of South Shields, with quality and durability as the […]

Gold and Silver Accessories For The Most Glam Time Of Year

In the fashion world, you’ve barely entered one season before you’re looking ahead to the next. That’s why it’s best to nail spring fashion this Christmas, so you can be ahead of the game by the time we’re looking towards summer! Here are some great gold and silver accessories that you can wear throughout the festive season: Medusa Necklace In Greek mythology, Medusa had the ability to turn anyone who looked directly at her to stone. Pretty useful ability, but this silver statement from Versace comes with no such caveats. We love the legendary look of the chain and gorgon head. Become a Grecian Goddess today! Safety Pin Earring Looks a little painful, but this earring from Viktor & Rolf’s the perfect addition to any rebel girl’s wardrobe. Match with silver studded shirts to complete the look. It’ll definitely get you noticed, if nothing else. Feather Choker This beautiful, winged statement accessory is from Balenciaga and seems to follow the mythological theme. It looks absolutely gorgeous with an off-the-shoulder top or dress, which shows off its stunning detail. Coil Necklace This reminds us of a Celtic torc (we’re sensing a pattern with this year’s accessories). Thanks Altuzarra for providing us with this lovely piece. Match gold accessories with a red lip and a white tunic this year for a timeless, glam Roman ensemble. Silver Envelope Clutch This clutch from Herve Leger will go superbly with a glitzy silver occasion dress this year, whether that’s for the Christmas office party or New Years’ Eve. It’s large enough to keep all your valuables together, without being too heavy and unwieldy. All you need is a set of pearl necklaces to complete the look. Gold on Gold You need a good pair of shades, even in winter. Seriously, that snow glare when the […]

Kirsten Dunst vs. Laura Bailey…Who wore Christian Dior better?

We don’t really recall a time, when a pink gown has failed to lift our spirits no end. And, at HQ this morning, we’re digging the shocking pinks of seasons past, or, more precisely, Kirsten Dunst and Laura Bailey in a fuschia Christian Dior pre-fall 2012 gown. Stepping out in the same striking gown, both Kirsten and Laura looked equally outstanding, even though they sported said look more than a year apart! Kirsten gave the gown its debut outing at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of On the Road, back in May 2012. Accessorising with a bejewelled minaudiere and statement earrings, her makeup was soft, hair curled and a black belt added the perfect, accentuating touch to bring the look together. But, giving the leading lady of Hollywood a run for her money was Laura Bailey, who wore the same gown to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition preview party, held in London, in June of this year. Opting to go belt-free, Laura added drop earrings, a black clutch and sunglasses to her look, whilst a wispy updo and neutral make-up provided the finishing touches. Have you decided on a fash-off winner? For the sheer, red carpet knockout effect of her look, we’re crowning Kirsten Dunst as this week’s stylish victor. Her overall polished look feels perfect for the high profile event she was attending, whereas Laura’s oversized sunnies are a little misplaced with her look. Agree with out style verdict? Lady Gaga tackles towering platform boots at recording studio

You can always count on Lady Gaga to make the headlines with her sartorial choices. Whether she’s walking a red carpet in her most outrageous attire or just going about her daily business, she does her best to make sure she doesn’t ever fade into the background. Take her recent appearance at a London recording studio for example… Mother Monster visited a London recording studio earlier this week looking relatively dressed-down and, dare we say it, normal from the knees up. She wore an oversized plaid shirt (a big trend right now in case you didn’t know) and completed her casual look with a baseball cap, sunglasses and a rucksack. We couldn’t help but notice her insanely high PVC platform boots though, and as a result, found ourselves holding our collective breath and fearing for her face/hips/general life. We assume that no news is good news and she hasn’t fallen down in them and had any PVC platform boot accidents, so we guess she’s becoming a bit of a pro! Kudos, Lady G! Would you wear Gaga’s boots? Do you like her “casual” look?

Wining and dining a loved one in Champagne

There are few things in life more romantic than a glass of Champagne. Whether it’s the elegant glasses, the lightness of the bubbles, or the sound of the popping of corks, Champagne has entered the public consciousness as being synonymous with the glamour and romance. So to show your loved one how you feel, why not plan a trip to the Champagne region of France? Planning ahead can get you some excellent champagne deals, saving you money to spend on wine and food while you’re out there. A region rich in vineyards, famous for its world class cuisine and only a stone’s throw from Paris – Champagne is arguably the most romantic destination in the world. Food According to the Michelin Guide, Champagne has a multitude of fine dining options. Restaurant Chez Max is a small, local restaurant in Epernay, which serves seasonal food and changes its menu every week to ensure that everything is as fresh and in season as possible. If you want to get a sense of how the locals eat, then restaurants like this are the best place to do it. The quality of food throughout Champagne is so high that one of the best options is to simply allow yourself to get lost in one of the towns or villages in the region. Find somewhere off the beaten path and let yourself get swept away with the charm of the welcome and the food. Adventure is the key to romance. Drink Of course, there’s no way you can travel all the way to Champagne without trying the wares that made it famous. The locals refer to the region as ‘La’ Champagne, and the drink as ‘Le’ Champagne. It’s simply not possible to get a bad glass of wine in the region. A brilliant setting for […]

Inspirational vs. Inane: Is the lure of the luxury good worth dreaming about?

If recent research is anything to go by, then the luxury goods industry is booming. Booming beyond cultural and financial borders; letting the emerging economies ride the Prada-lined wave of upscale consumerism, and shaking up the belief that the recession has been a turn off for spend-aholics. From Chopard to Chanel Couture and Piaget to Burberry; luxury expenditure hasn’t slowed down, and we’ve got China to thank for that, amongst newer markets such as Malaysia and India. But does the hike in highly priced goods being snapped up justify the production of what we here at MFL HQ like to call The Super Shopper’s Set? Point in case: this week’s super-spend wish list add-ons: Ray Ban’s £2,893 Aviator sunglasses (below) and, wait for it, the £70,000 platinum stilettos by House of Borgezie (pictured above). Items many of us don’t flinch at the idea of dropping a hot £100+ bomb on, and ones that are often our most prized possessions. If you’re not already gawking at these price tags in utter disbelief, we’ll describe the items in a little more detail. Said sunnies aren’t your average hide behinds, but, in fact, rimmed with an £18ct yellow gold frame. Not only that, but, only 1,200 have been put into production, further upping the exclusivity factor. Heels are the holy grail of a woman’s daily get-up (don’t deny it, you loafer-shod liars), and justifying a Jimmy Choo splurge is, often, a necessity. But what if you suddenly wanted a shoedrobe to rival Tamara Ecclestone’s? You’d be spoilt for choice trotting around in the custom-made Cleopatra stilettos, which can be crafted in platinum or 18ct white or yellow gold. We wouldn’t really blame you if the price tag processing part of your brain, as well your overstretched, extremely worried bank account may need to […]

Get Millie Mackintosh’s By Caprice honeymoon look

Congrats to Millie Mackintosh and new husband Professor Green! We’re also pretty infatuated with Millie’s white fringe bikini, but the good news is that getting the exact same piece won’t break the bank as it’s just one of the many fab pieces from the By Caprice range at Figleaves. Miley Cyrus is Worst Dressed of the Week

She may have graced the cover for the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar in a gorgeously understated Burberry Prorsum number, but that’s not getting Miley Cyrus off the hook as Worst Dressed of the Week! When she wasn’t looking all demure and crimson-lipped on a glossy cover, the twerking enthusiast was actually playing dress up as a fashion casualty! Miley recently took to the streets of London in a rather peculiar looking Jean Paul Gaultier hybrid trouser, which made for some interesting viewing. Part sheer legging, part wide leg trouser, she continued the horrifying all-black outfit party with a matching bra top (a regular occurrence in Miley’s uber-eccentric (read: barely visible) wardrobe), face-swallowing sunglasses and lashings of gold jewellery. Looking like the lovechild of a Goth and a gangster (no, really), Miley finished off her ‘special’ look with a rather ostentatious, dare we say it, Chanel handbag. Not one to take the subtle approach, the ultra-chunky gold medallion belt pretty much stretched our sartorial tolerance level to the limit! We’re all for Miley’s wacky wardrobe of late, but please quit the visual trickery and either don trousers OR leggings, not both. A pair of skinny black jeans or wide-leg black trousers could’ve turned this look around, with a slash of sexy midriff sans all that stomach-turning bling, to top it off nicely. Whaddaya say? Kourtney Kardashian is Worst Dressed of the Week

Given we’re all about rule breaking this week, we thought to shake things up and bring you our Worst Dressed celeb of the Week. We’re always waxing lyrical about pristinely dressed A-listers, so how about acknowledging those amongst us who take it upon themselves to make us wince every time we look at their outfits? Guilty as charged this week is one part of the super-extended Karadashian clan, Kourtney Kardashian. Stepping out in LA with her relatively well-dressed sibling, Khloe, Kourtney’s eye-watering outfit quickly diverted our attention. What is that we see? A shudder-inducing mishmash of sorts, that’s what! Pairing an otherwise gorgeous pair of heeled gladiator-style sandals with ripped, acid wash bermuda shorts, a white shirt and aviator sunglasses, Kourtney didn’t quite make the kind of fashion statement she probably had in mind when getting dressed. Broken down, her outfit is great: classic aviator sunglasses; a classic, crisp white shirt; summer-perfect sandals and bermudas Rihanna wouldn’t mind rocking. But thrown together, this outfit really is a case of sartorial sacrilege! (We shudder to think what Kanye had to say about this) The oft-polished reality star was probably having an off day (who doesn’t?), so here’s how we suggest she rework this ‘look’: shorts, not Bermudas, would work well, and ditch the shirt for a relaxed fit tee. Keep the sunnies and bag, and you’re good to go! [Image]

Five Fashion Trends to Embrace This Summer

It’s the start of a new season and time to start planning for the summer. If you’re looking in your wardrobe and don’t see anything that excites you, it’s time to head out on a shopping spree. We will see an eclectic mix of styles in 2013, from the harsh monochrome and geometric styles to much softer ruffles. It’s not just clothes either – the same can be said for eyewear. There is a big clash at the moment: big chunky glasses versus laser eye surgery. Those with perfect 20/20 vision are sporting some of the biggest glasses we’ve ever seen whereas those forced to wear specs everyday are turning to Ultralase eye surgery. Here are some of the top trends for this summer so you can update your wardrobe and look fantastic through the hot summer months. Monochrome Who doesn’t love the classic combination of black and white? This monochrome trend is as far away from boring or unimaginative as you could get. Whether in dresses, jackets, shorts, skirts or shoes, black and white will be dominating your wardrobe over the next few months. Floral prints We’re not talking about the usual floral designs, but bright, bold and garish options. Bright colours and big flowers will be all the rage this summer, giving traditional floral patterns a more modern look. Geometric prints It’s time to go back to school! Whatever you thought of maths and geometry, these patterns are anything but boring. Expect to see bold checks and stripes all over your clothes as fashion design takes inspiration from the classroom. Glasses Big chunky frames have been a big hit over the past 12 months and will continue into summer 2013, but those wearing glasses or contacts may feel differently. People who have perfect vision are sporting large glasses […]

Is wearable tech the way of the future?

If you ask a large group of Americans the answer seems to be a resounding no. Recently a telephone poll was conducted with 1,011 Americans over the age of 18 and only 34% of those who were polled said they would consider buying wearable tech such as Apple’s highly anticipated iWatch or Android’s Google Glass. These were not low income Americans either, they were all college graduates who earn in excess of $100, 000 a year and could easily afford these hi tech devices. Interestingly, 47% of those with a smaller income of around $35,000 annually were polled as saying yes to the wearable tech, whereas the interest was highest with those earning beneath the $35,000 annual income. Across all income streams and education levels it seemed that the idea of a smart watch was more feasible, with 42% of Americans polled saying they would purchase the device, over the 39% who said they would go for the smart glasses. With technology and trends changing so rapidly it’s surprising to note how those polled were not that keen on wearable tech yet conduct most of their daily lives online or by using mobile devices for everything, from emailing to playing android casino games on Android optimized sites. The reliance on modern technology for almost every amenity is huge, so low poll results of those earning in excess of $100,000 annually is surprising as it was expected that these would be the forerunners in the tech consumer game. In certain industries wearable tech is already the norm as the job requires complete hands free ability and the tech aids with this. Wearable devices include optical readers worn on the hand or wrist, head mounted displays or ear pieces and other more complex devices that allow for the wearer to complete the […]

Kris Jenner vs. Kirsten Dunst…Who wore Dolce & Gabbana better?

A summer-perfect, striped dress is the subject of this week’s fash-off, and we’re pretty darn excited about it! Hollywood darling Kirsten Dunst and matriarch of the Kardashian (k)lan, Kris Jenner, are at style loggerheads this week, as the pair battle it out in a gorgeous Dolce & Gabbana number. Sporting the same zebra crossing stripe dress from the SS13 collection, both ladies brought a very look to the table. Getting runway-fresh dibs on said dress was Ms. Dunst, who wore it last year to promote her film Bachelorette in New York. Adding a pop of colour with a yellow belt, whilst cleverly cinching the waist at once, Kirsten accessorized with simple black pumps, bright lips and cat-eye sunglasses. But battling to upstage the actress was momager and all-round paparazzi pro, Kris Jenner. Stepping out after lunch in New York earlier this month, Kris took a very First Lady approach to wearing the same dress, by slipping a black cardigan over it. Accessorising with a Valentino Rouge Rockstud clutch and matching heels, Kris was the vision of luxe lunchtime chic – something we’ve become accustomed to, given the Kardashians’ penchant for eating out in pricey, off-duty duds. So who are we crowing this week’s fash-off champ, you ask? Well, given Kris and Kirsten were attending very different events; we’re going to stick with Kirsten on this one. Hers is an easy look, thank to the simple accessories, whereas Kris’s look – although fiercely stylish – is too much for a lunch date! Do you agree with our fash-off verdict?

Crushing on Olivia Palermo’s casual chic NYC style

If we looked as chic and expertly styled as Olivia Palermo when we were just going about our day to day business, we would be very happy bunnies indeed. Olivia looked nothing short of fabulous when minding her own business on the streets of New York the other day. The bronzed American goddess exuded sartorial confidence in her casual but oh-so-chic ensemble which comprised of some pink shorts, a very on-trend denim shirt cinched in with a fun belt, and comfortable colourful flats. And of course an essential pair of dark sunglasses to keep out the sun and nosey paps. But those just aren’t any old pair of black sunnies, oh no. Olivia was wearing none other than Westward \\ Leaning ‘Children Of California’ sunglasses with reclaimed Californian Redwood. And for every pair of Westward \\ Leaning sunglasses that are sold, $10 will be donated to educational programs related to the specific style purchased. The proceeds for Olivia’s ‘Children Of California’ style sunnies go to Teach for America in San Francisco. So, should you choose to snap them up for yourself, you’ll not only have one more thing in common with the style maven that is Miss Olivia Palermo, but you’ll be contributing to a truly worthwhile cause too. Win, win!

Katherine Jenkins does Wimbledon white like a pro

It’s only been a few hours since we told you about the power of a good, white jacket, and lo and behold another famous face has stepped out in one, illustrating our point even further. And that celeb is none other than Welsh singing goddess Katherine Jenkins. All eyes may have been on Andy Murray (and even his perfectly dressed girlfriend Kim Sears) at Wimbledon yesterday, but that doesn’t mean Katherine Jenkins didn’t go unnoticed when she was watching the women’s quarter finals the day before. Nothing gets past us in the style stalking department, oh no. Katherine chose to wear her chic white blazer on top of an equally chic cream and white pencil dress, which she accessorised with nude peep-toe sling-backs and dark sunnies (maybe so she could catch some zzzs and go unnoticed – something Pippa Middleton actually admitted doing while watching the tennis after one two many glasses of Pimms). Another style ambassador for the effortless, timeless white blazer!

Rita Ora’s Beetlejuice/prisoner inspired Stella McCartney look

It’s not just the tennis pros that love a bit of Stella McCartney; British singing sensations also can’t seem to get enough of the designer either. Rita Ora being one of them! The singer was spotted out and about in London rocking a black and white Stella McCartney ensemble with wide horizontal stripes, teamed with her statement, signature red lippie and some super-fierce futuristic cat eye sunglasses from Miu Miu. We’ve been a bit unsure about quirky sunglasses ourselves, but Rita is definitely helping us move towards the “pro” side of the spectrum. Plus her newly acquired longer locks bring a softer, more glamorous edge to her look, which we like very much. Do you like Rita’s look or do you think she looks like a cross between a modern-day Beetlejuice and a prisoner?

So, to make the summer months ahead a little easier, sartorially speaking, we’ve rounded up 10 essential pieces for your summer wardrobe.   Off to Ibiza this summer? The excitement might make you a teeny bit forgetful (we know we forget important things when we’re a little bit giddy) so we’ve compiled a list of Ibiza essentials for you to check off as you pack. As well as your obvious items, i.e. passport, sun cream, sun hat, camera, beach towel etc, here are five items we definitely don’t think you should board the plane without: 1. – Bright clothes aren’t always advised for the gloomy London weather (and standing out isn’t always desired when you’re minding you own business on the tube), but the rules totally change when it comes to your holiday! Go colour crazy in this maxi! Misumi multicoloured maxi dress, £19.99 2. – We know you’ve been waiting for months and months to slip into a new bikini, so we have a feeling it will be one of the first things you pack. We love this studded beauty from Topshop – it’ll make you stand out on a crowded beach, and also offset your tan beautifully. Topshop lime studded triangle bikini, £28. 3. – As much as we love a good pair of heels, we think summer holidays should be about giving your feet a rest along with the rest of your body, so taking a good pair of flats with you is vital. Luckily you don’t need to compromise on glamour with these gorgeous embellished sandals from Dorothy Perkins – talk about Greek goddess! Dorothy Perkins nude heavy embellished sandals, Was £35, Now £22 4. – Don’t be tempted to buy cheap knock-off sunglasses for your holidays for fear of breaking or losing them – protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays should be a priority regardless of the price. “The World According to Karl” book, coming soon

It’s no secret that we love a good Karlism, but we aren’t the only ones. Clearly the publishing world has cottoned on to how weird and wonderful everything that comes out of Karl Lagerfeld’s mouth is that he is getting his very own book dedicated to his famous, fabulous, unrivalled quotes. Featuring such gems as, “I am a kind of fashion nymphomaniac who never gets an orgasm,” “Fat mummies sit there in front of the television with their chip packets and say skinny models are ugly…no one wants to see curvy women” and “I’m a little shortsighted, and people, when they’re shortsighted, they remove their glasses and then they look like cute little dogs who want to be adopted,” The World According to Karl promises to offer you an insight into the world of Karl Lagerfeld through his eyes and sharp tongue. “In this attractive volume, Karl Lagerfeld imparts his personal impressions on everything. His aphorisms and quotable declarations are in turns humorous, acerbic, insightful, or misleadingly definitive. Defining the world as he sees it–through the lens of fashion, Chanel, love, life, black sunglasses, luxury, books, and Karl himself–this book pays homage to the brilliance of Lagerfeld’s mind, his turn of phrase, and his visionary verdicts on fashion, humanity, art, and the world in general.” Although he wasn’t actually involved in the making of the book, he reportedly approves of the finished product, so we guess the publishers can breathe a high sigh of relief. Click here to head to Amazon and pre-order your copy right now. We’re ordering quite a few; after all, it’s never too early to start Christmas shopping, right?

Sienna Miller’s effortlessly stylish stroll in the Big Apple

There’s a reason we refer to Sienna Miller as a yummy mummy and style maven. The picture above is conclusive evidence that the British actress/model/fashion designer has still got it. “It” of course being current, contemporary unrivalled effortless style. Sienna and Tom Sturridge were taking a casual (but ever-so-stylish) stroll in New York the other day, and although we adore her retro red sunglasses, edgy shoes and cute white dress, one thing definitely stood out to us: her bag. Yep that bag is none other than the brand spanking new Mulberry Suffolk bag – it only made its way down the autumn/winter 2013 catwalk a few months ago but it’s already found a comfy new home on the shoulders of a true English trend-setter. Who better to show the New Yorkers what British fashion is all about than Sienna Miller?
