Choosing the Perfect Swimwear for Plus-sized Women

Every woman wants to look her best when vacationing at the beach, at the hotel’s pool, or even at the local swimming pool. Whether you are swimming for fun or to exercise, you need to wear a swimsuit that hugs your body well, gives you proper coverage, and prevents you from becoming a victim of the proverbial “wardrobe malfunction.” Every woman is different, and those differences make her unique. This uniqueness should be celebrated and appreciated. Real life is far from the Milan Fashion Week, and plus-sized women often find insecurities related to their shape getting the better of them, because of which some stay away from the beach/pool activities altogether. Shopping for bathing suits can be quite cumbersome. Not all kinds of swimsuits suit all bodies, so you need to put in that extra bit of time to decipher which style works best for you. This especially holds true for curvier women as most stores cater to women with ‘perfect bodies.’ The truth is anyone can look great at the beach or by the pool. All it takes is knowing how to make the right style choices. By wearing a flattering swimsuit you can accentuate your best features, while toning down the ones you’re not particularly proud of. That will rid you of all your insecurities and make you confident. Here’s how plus-sized women can choose the perfect swimwear. Busting the Problems If your problem area is your bust, the right swimsuit will give you the right minimizing effect. Chances are that the top of your body is bigger and heavier than the bottom. You need to focus on providing it with adequate support. Think bathing suits with wide straps and built-in underwire. Avoid extremely thin straps as they can make you look bulkier. You will do well in […]

How to Dress for Summer in Three Different Scenarios

It is the wonderful summertime, and many of us are absolutely thrilled. After all, no season is quite like summer. This fantastic time of the year brings memories that will last a lifetime and will fill up your scrapbook, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with seemingly endless photos. You will find yourself experiencing more sunshine, vitamin d, and mood-boosting sunlight simply from this very season alone. You will also find yourself (and family, or even friends) taking time off to enjoy stress-reducing time spent outdoors. It could be by the beach, at a barbeque, or at a park. Summer is also famous for parties, barbecues, day trips, vacations, and several other fun social events. If you are looking to appear your best for the summer, these are some great ways to show off your fashion sense in three different situations. 1. At the Beach If you choose to spend your summer at the beach (which, by the way, is an excellent idea) then first things first: you are going to want to check out suitable bathing suits. One of the best and most perfect options for the day spent at the beach is a patriotic bikini. Why not mix patriotism with a bathing suit if you are going to be in a hot setting? You will thank yourself later for this decision. Also, do not forget to add a red, white, or blue pair of flip flops. These will go great with your patriotic bikini or bathing suit. 2. At a Barbeque Let’s admit it: every time summer shines its sunny head, barbeques are always afoot. Everyone enjoys a barbeque during the summer time, and for a great reason: you will find the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, steaks, and other grilled food under a hot sun with good friends. Solid […]

The following are some of the attractions and places that you should check out if you are looking to enjoy some exceptionally stress-free times in this wonderful city: Enjoy the scenery and sumptuous delights at Nyhavn Especially during summer, Nyhavn is one of the most charming places in Copenhagen and the perfect place to relax after a long day. Originally a busy commercial port where ships from all over the world used to dock, it boasts beautiful houses, fine restaurants and a wonderful scenery. While there, you won’t miss to see tourists relaxing, enjoying some music, and great food. Indulge in shopping at Strøget Strøget is one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe and if you wish to do a bit of shopping, it won’t disappoint, as it offers a wide variety of shops ranging from cheap chain stores to some of the most popular international luxury brands of bags, shoes, watches, and dresses, among other fashion commodities. Style Jury: Rihanna vs. Beyonce

Both R&B Queens, huge fashion icons, and most importantly both fabulous; this one is a toughie. We don’t know about you but we’re not a massive fan of the Denim trend, let alone full denim, yet of course, both RiRi and Beyonce show it’s possible for them to wear any trend and nail it. Let’s start with RiRi; the singer was spotted in Beverly Hills with her mother on a shopping spree. Not only is her outfit cool but casual, her hair even while tied up and practical oozes laid back beach glamour. On the other side is Beyonce, one half of music’s biggest ever power couple (sorry Britney and JT that double denim catwalk combo was just catastrophic) not only is she a music Queen (amongst other things) but she also helps rule the fashion world, and she is killing it in double denim. Although she and partner Jay Z have been battling rumours of marriage problems, she shows the world that nothing will stop her from dominating the style world along with RiRi which is what makes this ‘who wore it better’ edition a hard one to decide. Unlike Rihanna however, Beyonce wasn’t being snapped out and about. This picture was posted on her Instagram and official website accompanied with the hashtag ‘#mylife’ – a devotion to Blue Ivy maybe? One thing they both did which distinguished them both from the crowd was accessorize. Rihanna chose a leather cap to add a bit of her signature bad girl edge to the ensemble, along with a denim Juliette Jake Wraparound Clutch which complimented the outfit perfectly, and then finished off the outfit with some sleek nude heels. Beyonce on the other hand opted for a pair of bang on trend Cazal round framed black tinted sunglasses, Christian Louboutin Foillies […]

10 must-haves under £150

Sitting outside, strawberries in one hand and iced green tea in the other, while the sunshine beams down all around me, you can’t miss the gorgeous weather: Summer is definitely here. The (very unfamiliar yet very welcome) British sunshine has been out in full force. With these must have pieces you can make sure you don’t spend all your hard earned cash straight away, but still treat yourself and make sure you keep your style as cool as ever. 1. Gold-Plated Necklace by Kenneth Jay Lane – £75 This gorgeous necklace can be a statement accessory to accompany a casual daytime outfit, compliment a richly coloured evening outfit or alternatively complete your look with your favourite LBD and some gold earrings (see up and coming brand Kevia’s beautiful range for some inspiration – even better, their range is all environmentally sustainable, using 100% recycled materials but still producing incredible results). This piece is perfect for the natural and exotic themes springing up in summer collections (exhibited by no.10 of our list). 2. Leslie Snake Wedge Sandals by Tory Burch – £146 Previously priced £325 (thank God for season sales) these wedge sandals are decorated with a gorgeous snake print and an almond coloured wedge, perfect for staying glamorous on the beach while sipping a skinny Mojito and soaking up the summer sun. I personally think snake print creates the perfect balance out of all of the animal prints. It’s subtle and sophisticated, yet you can still easily make a statement out of it. Snake prints always creates the perfect clutch, Tory works her magic there too in her Clara Wristlet Clutch Bag from one of her past collections.) 3. Baron Von Fancy Tote by Juicy Couture- £88 Witty and practical, not only does this tote bag make the perfect bag […]

10 Things to Do this Summer for Free

Summer is a time to enjoy the great outdoors. It is the time to hit the beach, go camping get your friends together and rent a party bus in Amarillo, TX, or take a road trip. Going on a vacation need not be expensive; here are ten activities that won’t break the bank. 1. Go on a road trip Have some extra gas in your tank and it’s a warm summer day? Pack some sandwiches and cans of soda and you’re set. Drive with your car windows open and feel the wind on your face. Although not technically free, a road trip is one of the least expensive ways to get a vacation. It can be considered free as you’ll only be using leftover gas from your weekly gas budget anyway. 2. Cycle across the city Strap on your sandals and put on some sunblock. Bust out the bicycle from storage, oil the gears, and you are ready for an afternoon ride around the city. Explore the city streets you don’t normally take to work or school. Find hidden gems such as little gardens, parks, or little shops of trinkets and antiques. 3. Have a stroll Summer is the perfect season to have a stroll around the neighbourhood. Experience the joy of purposeless walking. Go left or right alternately, or find a walking route recommended by other people in the neighbourhood. Take a small camera with you and take snapshots of flowers and leaves, dogs, cats, and other animals you may encounter on your walks. Document your walking route by taking pictures of street names and shops. 4. Swim If there is a community pool in your town, then it is time to pay them a visit. Enjoy the summer sun and get a tan by the pool side. Bring […]

Ralph Lauren Blue Label goes neutral for summer

Nude is back, people! Ok it never really went away to begin with, but we’d like to confirm that it’s bigger and better than ever before! And before readers of a prudish disposition stop in their tracks and recoil in horror, we’d like to point out that we are in fact talking about the colour – or lack thereof – as opposed to the state of undress. Reading resumes here… We don’t just have Kate Middleton and her love of a nude pump to thank for the emerging neutral trend – although she has played quite a substantial part in bringing it back on people’s radars. Ralph Lauren is just one of many designers who is bringing natural shades back on our style agenda; and this time he’s making sure that everyone’s paying attention. Sure we love a bright, bold summer hue for getting attention on the beach or at the cocktail bar, or a cute pastel colour combo for those light springtime evenings, but neutral is really standing out the most for us at the moment. And you only have to take a look at the latest Ralph Lauren collection to see what we mean. Going for nude is by no means a cop out; the textures, prints and patterns in the Ralph Lauren Blue Label collection alone are proof that nude is the furthest thing from dull and boring imaginable. The latest collection was actually inspired by Out of Africa – a film bursting with style if we may say – which is more than evident thanks to the basket weave cardigans and skinny jodhpurs complete with their very own suede knee patches. Our favourite piece from the collection, however, is the Nappa Gemima bootie in “truffle” as it’s a versatile shoe that would be just as welcome […]

William Grant & Sons launch new Three Barrels Honey brandy

Cosmos and sex on the beach cocktails are two of the most traditional stylish drinks to be sipping while on a night out with the girls (you only need to watch half an episode of Sex and the City to know this!) but don’t be surprised if they slowly but surely start being replaced with something a little stronger. A nice glass of brandy, perhaps… In a bid to cater to customers with a bit of a sweet tooth, William Grant & Sons have recently launched the Three Barrels Honey brandy – a brandy which the company boasts is the sweetest one yet. And given that William Grant & Sons has been a booming family business for over five generations, it’s safe to say that they know a thing or two about the nation’s favourite tipples. It isn’t just brandy that William Grant & Sons have excelled at, as they also produce some of the finest single malt scotch whiskey, gin, and spiced rum among other things. Still, it’s the brandy that has got our taste buds tingling this morning thanks to the smooth honey that promises to effortlessly glide down your throat (it’s Friday – we’re allowed!) and we are determined to make the rest of the nation agree with us. And proof that brandy isn’t just for older generations, the bottle has been given a very stylish make-over, complete with a premium gold and orange honey comb exterior. Look how pretty it is in the picture above! What do you think? Will you be swapping your faithful Cosmo for a nice glass of brandy instead? Why You Should Check Your Credit Rating After Returning Home From A Road Trip

I am a checklist person; always have been, always will be. Possibly one of my most important lists is my vacation checklist. Actually, it is more like several tiny checklists within one large, master checklist. I have a checklist I use for packing clothes, a list for packing equipment (whether it be copious amounts of sunscreen for a beach vacation, or a translation dictionary for my travels abroad), and a checklist of priorities to complete before my departure. The last list includes making sure that I have a neighbor getting my mail, ensuring that I’ve made reservations for my pets to stay with friends while I’m gone, and making sure that my financial institutions know that I will be traveling. There is nothing worse than being on vacation and having to deal with a security issue regarding your debit or credit card — it pays to plan ahead. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to have a post-road trip check list: make sure everyone get their laundry together to wash, properly put away vacation equipment, and making sure your identity was not stolen while you were traveling. I know, it sounds dramatic, but identity theft is the fasting growing crime in many nations. In 2013, more than 9.9 million Americans became victims to identity theft, costing them five billion dollars. In my short adult life, I’ve had two instances where I went out of town, for vacation, and came home to find that someone else had gained access to my personal information; one occurred a decade ago, and the other was just last month. Back in 2004, I was flying from Kiev, Ukraine, to the United States; however, I had a layover in Amsterdam. It was a lengthy layover, so I got a hotel room for the night. I got up the […]

The Most Stylish One On the Ship — Looking Cool For Cruising

If you’ve finally got your dream cruise booked, it’s time to think about reviewing your wardrobe. Given that cruises are among the more glamorous vacations, you’ll want to head out to sea sure that your attire meets the splendor of the moment. As cruise ship cabins don’t often have much storage space, you should only pack what you need — meaning outfit changes have to be minimal! No need to panic, though, because if you run out of clothes, you can get laundry done on board. Here are a few tips to help you look cool on board. 1. If you’re embarking on your cruise during the cooler months, a casual outfit of smart denim jeans worn with a striped T and navy blazer will look elegant for your arrival on board, and you can add or remove layers as necessary. Try a bright scarf and some chunky jeweler if that suits your style. 2. Swimwear is essential, whether by the pool or on the beach. Make sure to pack two swimsuits or bikinis, as it can be unpleasant putting on one which is still damp from the previous day. A lightweight kaftan in a coordinating color or print will be perfect for sipping cocktails at the poolside bar. 3. Pretty sun dresses are useful for day wear, and you can wear them ashore or dress them up with heels for a semi-formal evening. Pack two or three for a week’s cruise. A sun dress which co-ordinates with your swimsuit can act as a cover-up that will take you from poolside to restaurant at lunchtime. Pack a lightweight cardigan, because even if your destination is tropical, the air conditioning on cruise ships can sometimes feel quite chilly. 4. Don’t forget casual day wear! Pack two pairs of shorts, maybe one […]

Our top picks from the French Connection sale!

Packing your holiday suitcase or just adding new pieces to your spring/summer wardrobe can be pretty pricey, which is why we’d recommend taking advantage of the sale season and snapping up everything your hands can carry before someone else beats you to it. And one sale which never lets us down is the French Connection one which is happening online and in stores right now! Some of the season’s most-loved pieces from chic dresses to cute tops and much more have been slashed in price, ready for their brand new homes! We’ve been browsing the website all morning (and all weekend, if we’re honest) and have found three items which we definitely couldn’t live without. 1. Marble Pool Shirt. It’s all about stylish separates this season, and this shirt makes it very easy to mix and match with some of your pre-existing wardrobe staples. Team with a black pencil skirt and a chic jacket for the office, or with some bright trousers and statement necklace for an evening with the girls. It’s also the perfect office-to-bar piece; the styling and accessorising possibilities are virtually endless! 2. Bel Air Tweed Biker Jacket. This is the biker jacket to trump all other biker jackets. We love how the tough nature of a biker jacket is juxtaposed with the soft pink hue, and the refined tweed fabric makes it perfect for wearing on hotter days when a traditional leather jacket wouldn’t. 3. Belle Garden Shift Dress. The clue is in the title for this one. You really will be the belle of the ball (or summer party) in this stunning creation. Perfect for sipping cocktails on a beach bar on holiday or teaming with sky high heels and a fierce clutch bag for an evening of dancing a little later on in the […]

The Palladium Hotel Group launches the first technological bracelet!

Diane von Furstenberg has shown us that technology and fashion can indeed work seamlessly together with the recent release of the Google glasses, but she isn’t the only one. The Palladium Hotel Group has gone above and beyond what is expected of normal hotels and has done something pretty unique: it’s announced the launch of a technological bracelet! Confused? We were too at first, but stay with us, we promise this is going to be good! The bracelet is designed to be far more than an accessory; hotel guests will no longer be weighed down and inconvenienced by money or their hotel keys while trying to soak up some rays or taking a tip in the pool, as the bracelet will be doing all of that for you. Simply pass the bracelet through the readers, and you can pay for everything via pin or access your hotel room and various other areas of the hotel with total ease. We bet we will see something like this in the next James Bond film! The bracelet, otherwise known as the VIB (Very Important Bracelet – obviously), comes in various different shapes, sizes and packages, including the “Ushuaïa Clubber Pack” (which includes 10 drinks, access to the VIP lounge and a special breakfast, but at a bargain price) and our favourite, the “VIB Zen Pack” (which comes with a Spa massage, unlimited access to the water circuits at the Spa and a special wellness breakfast). The bracelet will be available at the Ushuaia Beach Hotel Ibiza this summer; in case you needed another reason to pack your bags for sunnier climes this summer, this is the perfect one! Make sure you watch the video below to see the bracelet and its very happy users in action. And don’t forget to share it with […]

Five of the Most Lavish Celebrity Weddings

No one does weddings like celebrities; spectacular, wildly extravagant nuptials are not uncommon when movie stars and other famous brides and grooms tie the knot. We can try to replicate the same grandeur with all the diamond rings and fancy things we want. However, there are a few celebrity weddings that truly stand-out from the rest of the pack. 1. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were married in a sunset ceremony in July of 2000 on a Malibu, California estate. Guests included Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Salma Hayek, and Cameron Diaz. The theme of the event was a “Zen garden” and included 50,000 flowers plus candles in the reception tent. A gospel choir and four bands performed, and guests were served lobster and champagne at the reception. A Fireworks display topped off the evening. 2. Donald Trump and Melania Knauss No list of most lavish anything would be complete without real mogul Donald Trump’s name somewhere on it. He wed model Melania Knauss in Palm Beach, Florida in January 2005 and the reception was held at Trump’s stunning Mar-a- Largo Club. The bride wore a 50 pound Christian Dior wedding gown that featured 1,500 beaded crystals, and a 13 foot train. Some of the guests included Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, Rudy Giuliana, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Simon Cowell, Regis Philbin, and Kelly Ripa. The ballroom of Mar-a-Largo was made to look like Versailles for the reception and was decorated with 10,000 flowers. 3. Tiger Woods and Elin Nordgren A grand wedding is no guarantee of marital bliss, but Tiger Woods and Elin Nordgren certainly got married life off to a royal start. They married in 2004 at the exclusive Sandy Lane Resort on the Caribbean island of Barbados. Woods rented out the entire resort in an […]

We love the masculine v feminine juxtaposition that’s going on with this outfit! Her Hollywood-ready golden glow (probably acquired from one of her many beach breaks), simple make-up and layered necklaces completed her look. [Image]

How to Accessorize White Clothing

The summer season is almost here, and many people are ready for lighter shades of clothing. Instead of layering bulky pieces of clothing, they might consider a simple white shirt with shorts. Also, some women might wear a white dress. These options are more comfortable for the hotter temperatures. However, they can lack interest without accessories. Fortunately, it is easy to wear a few necklaces, bracelets, or a fun hat to make the most of your summer white clothing. In particular, the following suggestions will help you accessorize your white ensembles. Pendant Necklaces When you are wearing a white dress or shirt, you should consider wearing accessories that are more visual. A simple necklace will not stand out against a basic t-shirt. However, a beautiful pendant necklace will be more noticeable and create interest with your outfit. Even better, this added bulk does not create warmth with your outfit. Therefore, you will still be able to breathe when it’s hot outside. Layering Necklaces If you do not like the idea of statement necklaces, layering them might be a good option for you. You can wear these at different lengths along your neck. They are designed to coordinate together. However, they usually do not look exactly the same. When worn correctly, they can create a nice juxtaposition that is fashion forward. Wrap Bracelets When you are wearing a basic white outfit, it is difficult to overdo it with your accessories. This is why wrap bracelets look so great during the summertime. Chanluu’s wrapped bracelets here are usually a mixture of beads and leather and go far beyond your traditional bracelet. The detailing on them is intricate and beautiful. Many women pair them with other bracelets to create a unique combination that is unlike anyone else’s. However, wrap bracelets can also be […]

Athena Procopiou Palampore flower silk cover-up: Yay or Nay?

We love it because… It signals the official arrival of warmer weather! Nothing feels more liberating than ditching a double layered jacket to slip on something a little more summer-appropriate, and this Athena Procopiou silk cover-up (£475) certainly hits the sartorial spot. It’s a YAY for… Lightweight: crafted in Italy from delicate crepe de Chine silk, the Palampore cover-up is perfect for dressing up on balmy summer nights. The pretty fringe detail is an added embellishment bonus, too! Print: The standout, striking red flower-girl print has been designed in-house, and wouldn’t look out of place against a pretty white summer dress. 2-in-1 investment: Slip it over your bikini, or wear it over jeans, a tee and flat sandals for the perfect summer outfit—you won’t run out of styling options for this ideal cover-up. And a NAY for… Dry clean only: Being cut from luxurious silk does have its downsides: the Palampore cover-up is dry clean only, which means befriending the local dry cleaner to keep the costly cleaning bills at bay. Price: At £475 a pop, the Palampore cover-up isn’t the cheapest summer investment. Figure out how you can re-style the cover-up through the seasons, and make sure you stock up on basics to make it work easily for day –not just for the beach. Blake Lively, Chanel and a Cannes Film Festival red carpet = perfection!

Yep, we’re writing about Blake Lively at the Cannes Film Festival for the second day in a row. We don’t think anyone will blame us though, as we just fell off our office swivel chairs when we first clapped eyes on her latest look. Although Blake Lively is the face of Gucci Premiere and has looked sensational in its dresses this month, she decided to go for a different designer for her latest Cannes appearance. And the only designer to substitute Gucci for has to be Chanel, right? Blake Lively literally sparkled on the Mr Turner premiere red carpet in a bedazzling Chanel Couture dress that is pretty much what all sartorial dreams are made of. She teamed it with Sophia Webster heels, an abundance of exquisite Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, and her signature effortless beach waves (which we learnt are a lot lower maintenance than we thought). And how much do you love the pocket detailing on that dress? We need a moment to process how one woman can look so perfect; please excuse us…

Best Attractions on the UK Compass

A particularly appealing aspect of the UK is the sheer variety of landscapes to be found around the coast of the mainland. Go to each point of the compass and you will find something or somewhere to appeal. Here’s some suggestions to prove the point. West: Fort William and Ardnamurchan Point Getting to the westernmost point of mainland UK takes a little effort, as it’s most definitely out of the way, but it’s worth it. Ardnamurchan Point is lonely, wild and quite unbelievably lovely. Whales, basking sharks and dolphins are frequent visitors to these waters. The point has a lighthouse dating from the mid 19th century. You can climb the 152 steps and two ladders to explore the lighthouse. The view from the light room is stunning. There’s also an exhibition centre, cafe and shop. The nearest large town to this westerly point is Fort William. Although this is the second largest urban centre in the Highlands, it is still compact enough that you can get around the centre easily on foot. The town has a supremely picturesque location on the shores of scenic Loch Linnhe and in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain‘s highest mountain. Visit the West Highland Museum, the Ben Nevis Distillery Visitor’s Centre and take an exhilarating ride on the Jacobite Steam Railway to Mallaig. East: Lowestoft and the Suffolk Coast The seaside town of Lowestoft is situated on what is understandably called, being located this far in the eastern UK, the Sunrise Coast. On one side can be found the tranquillity of the Broads, which reach to the northern boundary of the area. Here you can explore the beauty of the natural world, but if the family are in need of something a little more lively, there’s the three rollercoasters and water rides of the […]

5 Jewellery Style Trends for Summer 2014

With the arrival of May and summer just around the corner (even if the British weather belies this fact sometimes) now is the time to start thinking about getting that warm weather wardrobe up and running – as well as the accessories that accompany it. The jewellery you’ll be wearing will play a big part in this of course, but what can you expect to find gracing the parks, beaches and festivals this summer? Online jewellery retailer Nigel O’Hara offers up 5 trends that you should be considering this season. Take a Walk on the Wild Side Animal-inspired jewellery is really big right now, and here at Nigel O’Hara we love it for the exotic and powerful statement is can make. Not only does it have aesthetic benefits, but it can also prove to be a real conversation piece! Art-deco Inspiration Last year’s re-release of the film ‘The Great Gatsby’ was one of many factors triggering the recent renaissance of the classic art-deco style, and here at Nigel O’Hara we have a huge range of stunning pieces that can help juxtapose a modern wardrobe with some flapper-chic. Get Green this Summer Green is a colour that can work all year round, but during the summer is when it really comes into its own, evoking memories of summer day picnics and hikes through the forest. Jewellery and accessories with bright, fresh hues of green are ideal for accompanying floating summer dresses or even jeans and a tee, so make it a part of your wardrobe this summer. Electric Colours Electric colours such as oranges, pinks and bright yellows can be a little bit much if overused in an outfit, however by just adding hints of them via jewellery for example, you can really add some pop to a summer wardrobe. Brits reveal their top 20 summer fashion faux pas

Summer isn’t all matching bikinis, ice cream and frolicking on the beach without a care in the world. There are some down sides to summer too – especially when it comes to fashion! A survey has been conducted by Swimwear365 to find out what we Brits think the biggest summer fashion faux pas are, and you won’t be surprised to learn that socks and sandals, sunburns, and high heels on a sandy beach have all featured on the list. Women getting excited by the warm weather and revealing too much flesh is another thing that annoyed a lot of Brits taking part in the survey… “The UK is used to having bad weather, so it’s understandable we want to make the most of the good weather when we do get it,” said Helen Boyle, fashion stylist of Swimwear365.  “So summer time is an excuse for many Brits to strip off and expose as much flesh as possible. “Many adults find it hard to dress for their body shape which can unfortunately lead to errors such as tight swimwear or muffin tops. Both of which can be avoided by buying the correct shape, style and size for your figure. So by avoiding fashion disasters on the beach, you can look back on the summer without cringing.” Are you guilty of committing any of these crimes to fashion? Do you agree with Helen and the Brits who took part in the survey? Here are the top 20 summer fashion faux pas: 1. Socks and sandals 2. Streaky fake tan 3. Swimwear that’s too small 4. Beer belly 5. Union jack shorts 6. Thongs 7. Dodgy tan lines 8. Heavy make-up on the beach 9. Skirt tucked in to knickers 10. Peeling sunburn 11. Sunburn 12. Muffin tops 13. Panda eyes 14. Saggy […]

Packing for a summer holiday

It’s all too easy to pack too many clothes when you’re going away for the week, and you end up lugging a heavy case around when you’ve no need to. Of course, if you’re travelling by plane you’re limited on weight, and that can actually help you narrow down your choices more easily. However, here are a few tips to bear in mind when you’re packing so that you can travel light.Start off by putting all the clothes that you might want to take with you out on the bed. Then be strict with yourself and take half the stuff on the bed away. It may seem drastic but it will help you to focus and it’s a good way to remind yourself which clothes you take on holiday year in year out, carry round for the week and then bring back unworn. You may also want to buy some new items to take away with you, such as something from Superdry’s new collection, so make sure you do holiday clothes shopping before you start the packing process. The key to a good holiday wardrobe is to choose outfits that make you look good and are also comfortable. Plan your outfits day by day for the time you are away. What activities might you be doing? You may need some sports kit and shoes as well as just beach wear. Think about what kind of places you’ll go in the evenings – are there going to be any dressy occasions? If there’s an item left in your packing pile that doesn’t have a specific reason to be there, leave it at home. Think about how different items will coordinate with each other on your trip. Taking clothes that go nicely with a range of other items in your case will […]

Kate Middleton continues to wow on Australian Tour

While we may have been slumped in front of the telly eating our weight in chocolate, Kate Middleton, Prince William and adorable little Prince George had a very eventful four day weekend as they continued their tour of Australia. And as usual, all eyes were on the Duchess of Cambridge’s sartorial choices. On Good Friday, Kate Middleton went down to the beach and mixed with the locals, choosing a white eyelet dress by Australian designer Zimmermann and a pair of Stuart Weitzman nude cork wedges for the occasion. Running in the sand so gracefully even in wedges? We don’t know how she did it, but then we guess that’s Princess power for you! We know that Kate loves her some L.K Bennett footwear, but she’s also pretty keen on the items of clothing too, which is why we weren’t surprised to see her visit the Royal Australian Air Force Base in Amberley in an L.K Bennett Lase dress. She accessorised with navy suede Alexander McQueen court shoes and a bright blue clutch by Australian brand Oroton. Divine! You can’t go to Australia without getting up close and personal with some koala bears, and that’s exactly what the royal couple did. Kate wore a cute Broderie Anglaise dress (previously seen when she visited the Solomon Islands) and some Stuart Weitzman Minx sandals for the occasion. A great chic but casual look for the Duchess! Kate Middleton’s Easter Sunday look was particularly dreamy, as she wore a stunning dove grey Alexander McQueen coat with a matching Jane Taylor hat for a service at St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney. We love how Kate champions British designers, so we were thrilled to see her touch down in Canberra in a bold royal blue shift dress by the one and only Stella McCartney. We love […]

My Fashion Life caught up with swimwear supremo Heidi Gosman, the name behind luxury holiday wear brand, Heidi Klein, to discuss hideaway holiday spots, beach beauty essentials and the secret to ensure your holiday wardrobe is as sizzling as your vacay destination: Describe your perfect capsule holiday wardrobe? The perfect holiday capsule is well-thought out, with bikinis that can be easily mixed and matched, or paired with some lightweight kaftans; an oversized white shirt is a must pack, a large sunhat and a great pair of sunglasses to protect you when out in the sun. What swimwear styles would you recommend for our readers who may not feel bikini confident this holiday season? The Three D’s To That Perfect Bikini Body

If we’ve got our dates right, then we’ve all got about five months to get our bikini bodies whipped into shape. The weeks following the festive period are always a struggle, and it’s difficult to imagine ever feeling fabulous on the sandy beaches when you’re feeling frumpy and a bit a blue. That said, start to make some changes now and you’ll see a big difference when it’s time to don that bikini and strut your stuff in the sun. We’ve put together some simple tips, designed to help you achieve the body you want, without the danger of crash diets and exhausting exercise regimes. Take a look at our three D’s below; Diet We’re sure we’re not the only one who can admit that they’ve tried (and failed) their fair share of crazy fad diets. Cabbage soup, maple syrup – even baby food – we’ve tried them all! These sorts of eating plans might have fast results, but their ability to put your body into starvation mode means that when you start eating again, your body immediately stores it as fat, as it doesn’t know whether it’s going to be starved again. Take a look at this example from the Daily Mail, created by nutritionist Yinka Thomas, which claims to give you a perfect beach body in just three weeks. Starting your preparations early means that you can give yourself extra time to achieve the goals you want; instead of dramatically altering your diet (the surest way to fall of the bandwagon), why not use this as your inspiration for a new healthy eating regime? Detox When you hear the words ‘maple syrup’, don’t balk in fear that we’re suggesting you embark on the maple syrup diet! This might be a quick way to lose weight (it stands to […]

Jonathan Saunders gives us another reason to book a Jamaican holiday!

Here’s another reason to book that Jamaican holiday: Jonathan Saunders is designing the pool area at the five-star Sensatori Resort for Thomson. Fashion, sun, and luxury – what more could a girl want? “I’m always inspired by interiors but I’ve never done anything like this – not since art school anyway – although I do a lot of interiors research for my collections,” Jonathan Saunders said. “ I started this project in the way I begin any collection – with mood boards, a colour palette and fabrics – to create something that feels to me like the Saunders girl on holiday.” Oh to be a Saunders girl on holiday… The designer isn’t ending things there, either, as he has also designed a beachwear collection comprised of sarongs and beach bags which will be made available at the hotel as well as Thomson shops. Well, you might as well go all out; he certainly doesn’t do things by halves and neither should the hotel guests! [Vogue]

Kim Kardashian’s chain mail inspired outfit: yay or nay?

It’s been a few days since a member of the Kardashian klan got us talking, so leave it to middle sister Kim Kardashian to do the honours for the family. Kourtney, Khloe and Kim attended the opening of their newest Dash store in Miami Beach last night, each sporting some very different but equally attention-grabbing looks while doing so. Kourtney looked ultra-summery and cute as a button, as always, while Khloe blew us away with her epic body transformation, looking sensational in a black ensemble – her ombre beach waves tumbling over her shoulders so perfectly. And now onto Kim’s look, which we feel might have a bit of a Marmite effect… Kim decided to wear a see-through chain mail inspired top and skirt combo, which pretty much proved that she had bounced back to her pre-baby body thanks to the exposed midriff. We do feel the black lingerie which is very visible underneath the outfit cheapened the look a bit; but then again: what would she have worn underneath to cover her modesty instead? Answers on a postcard!

See Miley Cyrus in a whole new light for Marc Jacobs’ new ad campaign

We showed you the debut dark and brooding images of Miley Cyrus’s ad campaign for Marc Jacobs’ spring/summer 2014 collection back in January, but the newly released images show the 21-year-old in a whole new light. And we love it! Miley’s make-up is minimal, her styling is understated, her flesh is covered, and there isn’t a single wagging tongue in sight. Marc Jacobs and photographer David Sims should pat themselves on the back for this epic transformation! “We wanted this beach with the girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark,” Marc Jacobs said. “We all just love her and her entire being, her talent, her intelligence, everything,” he said. “There’s nothing I don’t like about her. She is just genuine and very natural.” Whether Miley sticks to this new wardrobe and styling is a different matter, but in the meantime, let’s appreciate the ad campaign images in all their glory while we can. Stella McCartney Surrealist mini skirt: Yay or Nay?

If you’re anything like us, you’ll have grumpily slipped into yet another pair of jeans this morning. Oh, how we long for you, sunny spring! Strictly speaking, we’re still on the other side of holiday-inspired cocktails and barely-there dressing, but what’s a girl to do if not dream? And, making us dream this a.m. is the stunning Surrealist embellished mini skirt from Stella McCartney (£865). Leaving us pining for enviably tanned (and toned) pins, this silk and cotton-blend number packs an artistic punch, featuring crystal and bead Surrealist motifs. Making for an exciting addition to your wardrobe from the designer who fulfills every woman’s desire to dress like the boys – but with feminine flair – are you tempted to give in and snap up some Stella M goodness? Below, we help you rationalise the fashion binge… Yay Easy party look: This skirt easily removes the need for a party dress. Style with a casual tee, heels and a clutch, and you’re good to go! Great for the holiday wardrobe: Late night parties on the beach? This skirt ticks all the right boxes, without being an overpowering, overly-decadent (and overheating) addition to your suitcase. Day-to-night investment: Dashing to an after work event, or cocktails? Pair this skirt with a cosy grey knit and ankle boots by day, before switching it up for some evening glamour (see easy party look above). Nay Price: Erm, did we say this piece of art cashes in at £865? Yes, that’s just over one months’ rent, in case you were wondering. Colour: White: not the most practical of shades, so you’ll need to hatch up a befriend-the-dry cleaner plan before buying. Delicate: Given the delicate motifs are what make this mini skirt masterpiece just that, they’re also prone to damage. If you’re planning on dancing […]

The gorgeous supermodel is living proof that simple blue jeans and an effortless white jumper can be a winning sartorial combination; having beautiful beach waves and an enviable golden glow doesn’t do any harm, either! We also couldn’t help but notice Gisele’s hand candy, the cute aqua coloured bkr bottle she is carrying. Gisele isn’t the only super or celeb to be spotted out and about with these trendy glass and silicone bottles. Jessica Alba, Olivia Wilde, Natalie Portman and fellow Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio are just some of the bkr bottle’s famous fans. Beyonce shows off her body in Michael Costello in the Grammys press room

We gushed over Beyonce’s amazing Drunk in Love Grammys performance earlier today, but that’s not where the Bey appreciation is ending, oh no. Mrs Jay Z once again blew us away when the show was over when she stepped into the press room in her sheer white floor-length Michael Costello fishnet gown. Beyonce’s flawless toned body was on full display, making anyone who set eyes on her completely green with envy. We don’t even want to know what it did for all the red blooded males in the room, either.. Although the sheer trend is nothing knew on the red carpet or catwalk scene, we think Beyonce definitely brought something fresh and new to the table. Her wild beach wave hair complete with her fierce red lippie completed the look nicely, making Beyonce’s one of the brightest stars from the 56th Grammy Awards on the whole. Do you agree with us?

A truly mesmerising and unique family holiday, The Observatory has its own private staff and bush guides to ensure everybody’s safety and comfort. Sadly, those looking for a true safari experience might be disappointed – the fabled ‘Big Five’ are in short supply in the area, but this does mean overnight camping and walking enable you to truly appreciate the majestic landscape. 6. Chateau de Chiffre, Languedoc, France De Chiffre might sound a bit like the name of a Bond villain, but thoughts of world domination will hardly be a top priority if you choose to stay at this unique luxury villa. A converted windmill in the heart of a vineyard, De Chiffre is secluded enough to offer total tranquillity but close enough to the coast that a beach […]

Spotlight on Roksanda Ilincic…

Having witnessed her epic London Fashion Week catwalk shows first hand over the years, we can confirm that Roksanda Ilincic definitely doesn’t do things by halves. So, when the designer’s brand spanking new pre-spring 2014 swimwear collection launched, we knew we would be in for a treat even before setting eyes on it. And, now that we have the stunning images of the products to look at in all their glory, we know that we weren’t wrong with our assumption. In fact, Roksanda Ilincic seems to outdo herself season after season, which is why she remains to be one of our favourite designers on the London Fashion Week schedule. Roksanda Ilincic never shies away from bold colours, and we’re pleased that her signature love of pairing vivid shades and patterns together has remained for her new season swimwear collection. She knows what us girls look for in a swimsuit; after all, who wants to sit on a beach or by the pool and blend into the background? If you work hard to earn you holiday money to pay for the luxury break, and even harder in the gym to get your bikini body in tip top shape, then you definitely don’t want to be upstaged. And wearing one of Roksanda’s designers, in particular one of the pieces from the new collection, will guarantee that that doesn’t happen. The collection is comprised of attention-grabbing onepieces, which is great for the body conscious holiday makers, although probably not the best for tanners who want to sun their midriffs. But if you want to look like a vintage goddess as you sit in the shade sipping your cocktail and flicking through the latest issue of Vogue, then this collection is for you! The coral check trinity swimsuit will be particular popular with the […]

5 stylish sunglasses to snap up now!

But we also know that the show must go on – our wardrobes need updating as we slowly but surely shift into a new season, which is why we are thankful for the good old January sales. One product we found ourselves in desperate need of while shopping in stores and online (that’s right, we said need, as living without them is not an option!) is a pair of sunnies. Miley Cyrus is the new face of Marc Jacobs!

Miley Cyrus has probably offended a lot of people these past 12 months, but Marc Jacobs definitely isn’t one of them. So, it comes as no surprise to learn that the all-singing, all-twerking former Disney starlet has been named as the brand new face of Marc Jacobs. Congrats, Miley! “We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything,” Marc Jacobs said about his choice of ad campaign star. “There’s nothing I don’t like about her. She is just genuine and very natural.” Shot by David Sims (as MJ’s usual choice for his ads – Juergen Teller – didn’t want to shoot Miley – harsh!) and styled by LOVE magazine’s Katie Grand on an abandoned beach, Miley is also joined by Natalie Westling and Esmerelda Seay Reynolds in the spring/summer 2014 ad campaign. “We wanted this beach with girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark,” Marc Jacobs continued. What do you think of the new Marc Jacobs ad? We’re in love! [WWD]

Special occasion hair: Wedding days

From the second her man gets down on one knee, a billion things can rush through a future brides brain – the size of the diamond on her finger will typically take priority right now… but the way she’ll wear her hair on the big day is probably going to cross her mind in the months to come. With the 2013 winter wedding season getting to in full swing, a bride’s barnet could easily make or break her party mood. Never fear, we’re going to guide you through some of the most popular, most modern, and some of the simplest styles you could be rocking on your big day. The chic and sophisticated chignon has been pretty popular since almost the beginning of time. The swept back style can be traced back to the Ancient Greeks no less, and was also worn by men. Not sure about letting hubby walk the aisle with his hair pinned down to the nape of his neck, but a lot can be said for metro-sexuality nowadays. Either way, whichever member of the bridal party chooses a chignon will definitely be the classiest broad at the ball. There’s a lot to be said for plaits and braids at the moment. Not only are they great fun, but fishtail and herringbone styles represent the catwalks of recent seasons. They make a great statement for any fashion-forward lady on her wedding day and provide interest whether they’re the basis of a style or merely incorporated in to the overall look. Try decorating your plaits with the flowers that feature in your bouquet and just wait for gasps of delight from the guests. Talking of decorating, hair accessories are all the rage right now. Alice bands have been knocking around on bride’s heads for a few years now, […]

Jennifer Hudson wears Stella McCartney at her Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Jennifer Hudson is the latest celeb to prove that less is more and simplicity really is key. The Oscar-winner was deservedly awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and pulled out all the sartorial stops during the unveiling ceremony. Jennifer looked chic and beautiful in a white python jacquard Stella McCartney Resort 2014 dress, which she acessorised with matching white heels and some subtle but sparkly accessories. Pure perfection! Charlize Theron wore the same dress last month while attending the Variety 5th Annual Power of Women event, proving that two ladies can rock the same dress in totally different ways. However, despite some differences, both Charlize and Jennifer are united with their totally on-trend pixie cuts, which we think is the perfect hairstyle for a draped dress like this. As much as we love Victoria’s Secret style beach waves, we think they’d tamper with the fluidity and silhouette of the dress, so styling brownie points all round!
