I love perfume; I mean really, really love it. I carry samples sizes of different scent in all of my bags so that I can refresh throughout the day. Because no matter what (unless it is my beloved Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani), I can’t seem to get a scent to last throughout the entire day without multiple applications. That is, until I came upon a great idea while browsing the perfume section at Saks.

I don’t know about most of you, but my hair is completely unmanageable. I don’t mean that I can’t get it to hold a curl or it is too limp or anything like that- rather, my hair has a mind and will of its own. If you think this sounds ridiculous, well, you haven’t seen my hair. It’s insanely thick (like, every single hairdresser I have ever gone to tells me that my hair is the thickest they have ever seen, AND I break hair elastics at least once a week).

A few weeks ago, I went to dinner with my girlfriends and as usual, our convo turned into a lively discussion about the latest beauty products we’ve been using. As we covered falsies vs. eyelash extensions vs. the latest mascaras, we started talking about Imju’s Fiberwig, the number-one selling mascara in Japan (with buzz rivaling that of the legendary Shu Uemera eyelash curler). With the promise of clump-free, smudge-proof dramatic lashes at the touch of a wand, I had to see what all the hoopla was about.

Remember those kitschy mood rings or hyper-color t-shirts that we used to love in grade school? I used to think it was so cool that something would change colors based on my mood…I guess some things never change.
When I was at Sephora this weekend, I came across a bright pink packaged lip gloss named Mood Swing by Too Faced. Promising to moisturize, protect and to tint the wearer’s lips according to their PH Balance and mood, the product sounded like it was worth a fun little test drive.
After swabbing a little on my lips, the gloss that was crystal clear coming from the tube, morphed into a rosy tint somewhere between strawberry and light fuschia.

So, I’m making a foray into new territory here—perfume! I don’t know about all of you ladies, but I’m never fully dressed until I have spritzed myself with scent. However, it’s tricky to describe perfumes as they change with everyone’s body chemistry and no one has yet figured out how to send smells over the internet (note to any technology proficient readers: this would be an excellent idea).
My personal favourite is and always will be Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani. It’s very delicate, floral without being cloying, and has the slightest hint of musk (the Armani website says sandalwood too). The best part is, on a warm day the scent will “reactivate” itself and you smell freshly spritzed all over again (plus my boyfriend loves it).

Sure, celebrities are always touting the contents of their makeup bags and their beauty must-haves. This is all well and good, but when it comes down to it, we’d all look flawless if we had a legion of beauticians applying our makeup every morning. Here in the Big Apple, most of us work ridiculous hours, yet almost never head home directly after work.
When you’re going to bed at 1 am and waking up six hours later to head to the office, it wreaks havoc on your appearance…and it’s only Tuesday! So what’s a girl to do when she has to dress up for work and look her best? I rely on a tried and true routine, no gimmicks and no personal makeup artists included:
