Brighten Your Smile With These 4 Tips!

A beautiful, dazzling smile is no longer a privilege reserved for wealthy celebs. Now we all can attain a beautiful smile either at home or by visiting a dental professional! From high street dentists offering the very latest in cosmetic treatments to whitening kits you can pick up in any chemist or supermarket. There are many ways to achieve your dream smile, but which one is right for you? Here you’ll get the lowdown on the best teeth whitening options out there.   Visiting your dentist When you visit your local dentist – for Dentists in Surrey, check out the link – your dentist can also offer options in order to get the best result. Each dental practice is different, but here are a couple of examples of procedures that are quite common. Power/Speed Whitening with intense light One way, is to have gel with a high hydrogen peroxide content, placed over your teeth. This bleaching gel is then placed under a bright light and you are left for 15 minutes for this to work. This is then repeated two or three times – this procedure can take up to around an hour. The result is usually 2-3 shades lighter than your current colour and this can last for up to three years. There are few drawbacks: during the procedure: you have to wear a mouth guard to keep the gel away from the gums, which can feel slightly uncomfortable, and there may be sensitivity for a day or two. You may not be suitable for this treatment if you have ‘synthetic teeth’ (veneers, crowns or a bridge), are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have sensitive teeth. Over the counter bleaching kits These kits are available in many supermarkets and in larger chemist stores and they usually contain a mouth guard […]

How to Choose the Perfect Swimwear for Your Summer Vacation

If you’re planning to head off on a summer vacation soon, you are surely excited about having time off work or away from the house. Nothing beats lying by a pool or the beach, sipping cocktails, and enjoying some rest and relaxation. However, if you’re like a lot of women, you may feel worried about going shopping for a new swimsuit to take with you on trips. Unless you’re in tip-top shape and have been getting yourself bikini-ready for months, you may find that shopping for a bathing suit brings all of your body worries to the surface. This can make you want to hide rather than strut your stuff while you’re on holiday. To counteract this feeling, it is important to understand how to locate swimwear that will not only feel comfortable when you wear it, but that also compliments your body shape. Read on for some tips you can follow today to help you find just the right piece(s) to make your summer days blissful. Shop for Your Specific Bust Size First up, it is important to consider your bust size when shopping for swimwear. This is not only about a swimsuit looking good, but also being comfortable and ensuring you are covered up enough and not having to pull at your bathing suit top constantly to avoid a wardrobe malfunction. If your bosom is quite large, make sure you find swimwear that provides plenty of support for your chest. It is best to steer clear of string bikinis; instead search for swimwear that has lots of lift and hold. Those with thicker straps and double-stitched bands, plus underwire and other structure tend to be ideal. It also helps to opt for a bathing suit that comes in specific cup sizes, rather than a more generic size S, M, […]

Update Your Style With Our Top Fashion Tips For April

What should you wear in April? Well, you would obviously be well-advised to wear a little less – or, at least, thinner – clothing than usual, assuming that this spring’s weather will be typical of the season. However, if you want to stay fashion-conscious without sacrificing a lot of practicality, you will need a lot more guidance than this. Thankfully, we can provide exactly that – and, in doing so, take particular inspiration from many spring trends that debuted on the catwalks late last year. Show off a slogan Last year, model Maria Grazia Chiuri channelled her inner Emma Watson with a t-shirt bearing the slogan “we should all be feminists”. Indeed, why shouldn’t we be? It’s a testament to the powerful effect that slogans can have. Glamour said that this particular advocating of girl power “immediately stole our hearts” when it featured on the catwalk following Christian Dior’s initiative. A particularly significant merit of including slogan tees in your own spring wardrobe is that this kind of clothing doesn’t have to be very expensive at all. You could even modify a shirt you already have with a saying that you are especially fond of – or, quite simply, that has a very strong potential to resonate during the current climate. This spring, expect a purple reign “Dream if you can a courtyard / An ocean of violets in bloom”. Take away the plural in ‘violet’ and the late singer Prince could have been singing, in his synthpop classic “When Doves Cry”, about fashion’s recent embrace of purple. GQ speculates that Prince himself could have inspired this, given that he died in April last year, only a few months before purple’s revival on the runways. What helped make the abundance of purple look especially bold is that, otherwise, the fashions […]

Can I Pull Off Diamond Jewellery?

Typically, when you think of diamond jewellery, you may not instantly associate it with a male audience. However, thanks to a few huge stars like Kanye West and David Beckham, diamond jewellery is becoming more and more fashionable and acceptable in mainstream menswear. With gender trends merging together more and more as each season passes, diamond jewellery is 100% an option for men – but it is very easy to overdo the look. If you’re not certain, take a look at these tips to pulling it off… Necklaces Not all of us can pull off a necklace. In fact, a lot of men would never even consider one. But, they are getting more and more popular. Style icons like Miles Kane and Johnny Depp are making it more and more socially acceptable to wear bit of neck bling. And the great thing about a necklace is it can be as subtle or as flashy as you like. The standard length of necklaces for men is 20 inches, which means it will rest on the collarbone, but you might want to go for something slightly longer for a more bohemian look. A simple pendant is a great choice because they add a lot of personality and a simple, small diamond could be perfect . Make sure you choose a more subtle diamond though – it’s sometimes easier to buy a loose diamond online so you can get perfect the look. Rings When it comes to diamond rings, men should go for something a little chunkier, rather than a delicate diamond. A glamorous looking ring really won’t be for everyone. Make sure you opt for chunky bands, perhaps with delicate diamonds surrounding the width. Pinky rings have been huge in the last year or so, worn by the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and […]

How To Truly Annoy Your Hairdresser

Hairdressers spend a lot of time on their feet and work hard to make a living. While they cut, color and style away to work their magic, they listen intently as clients chatter on and on about themselves. Based on their always pleasant expression and unfazed demeanor, you’d think that there’s nothing that can get under their skin. Well, actually, you’d be wrong! Rosy Salon Software recently conducted a survey in which various salon pros were asked what truly annoys them about their clients. The answers were then crafted into funny ways to test their limits. Naturally we’re making fun of things but sadly, these sarcastic scenarios are all based on real-life stories … What Schedule? Your salon appointment is really more of a suggestion than an absolute commitment. If you’d rather not show up, don’t, and skip the call to cancel … your hairdresser would rather that you just wander in whenever you want. Trust me, they are there waiting for you! If you do come in, late or otherwise, on the way to the salon chair dawdle for at least 15 minutes. Then have a seat and snap your fingers to get the attention of your hairdresser so they can get started. Oh, but wait … did you remember to the loo first? Grab some coffee, or maybe even check out what’s new in the retail area? It’s okay, go ahead, your hairdresser will wait for you. It’s not like they have a schedule to keep or anything. And, for a little added merriment, demand to get out on time and whine about it the entire length of your appointment. Rest assured that they will absolutely give you your best, or most unique, haircut ever. Score! It’s All About You In the salon, remember that the world absolutely […]

Thankfully these days the bulk of online shopping can be accomplished online, however there are still some handy sales tips that still apply and should be observed to ensure you get the most bang for your buck. Here’s our must-have guide to shopping the winter sales. 1. Research: List your fave stores and do a little digging to find out when their sales start and end. Knowing when your favourite stores are on sale is key to never missing out. Stay in the loop by following their social media feeds and signing up for alerts. 2. Wishlist:  Avoid the temptation of snapping up that Dolce & Gabbana dress that you’ll never wear, just because it’s 60% off. Conduct an in-depth wardrobe analysis, list every single piece you’ll need to complete and create new outfits.  Seek inspiration from your favourite streetstyle blogs and magazines and be very precise and concise. Shopping the sales with a clear idea of exactly what you want will make your life so much easier and will definitely save you tons of cash. 3. Opt for timeless pieces: Why are the end-of-season sales so popular? It’s the one time of year when designer pieces are heavily discounted. Take advantage and update your wardrobe with more classic, quality clothing and accessories guaranteed to last for seasons to come like a tailored coat for example, knee high boots or this great watch at WozNow. Avoid trend-led clothing, especially prints, as chances are the coveted trend is done and dusted and you’ll find yourself stuck with a pair of trousers or a top that will only see the light of day once. 4. Don’t settle: Ask yourself a series of essentials questions before hitting […]

Going Braless: 2016’s Biggest Feminist Fashion Statement?

Why do you wear a bra? For comfort? To cover up? Because wearing beautiful lingerie makes you feel good about yourself? Or is it simply a habit you fell into after being whisked off to the shops to buy one the day your breasts started to show? Figuring out why we wear them and how they fit into feminism is the centre of several complicated debates. And although we’ve been talking about the purpose and significance of bras for decades, we’re still no closer to finding an answer. Burning Bras and Beauty Standards Like the best of partnerships, feminists have had some major fallings out with bras, the most infamous of which came in 1960 with protesters (now debated) publicly burning their bras. What started as a rally against the oppressive beauty standards of the Miss America pageant, became the defining image of the Women’s Liberation Movement, and one that isn’t often taken seriously. Even today, mention feminism and many people will immediately revert to clichés about angry activists and burning bras. The Pencil Test From that iconic moment in 1960, arguments about bras continued to make waves. In 1970 came the concept of the pencil test, posited as the definitive method of determining whether you needed to wear a bra. Basically, you placed a pencil under your breast and if it remained in place then it was off to the lingerie department for you. A test that’s now been turned into a viral social media trend, then reinforced one of the standards feminists had been working so hard to defeat. The sexualisation of the female form, too distracting to be on display, meant that breasts – and particularly large breasts – were to be contained and restrained. The Sexualisation of Big Boobs It’s a theory that still holds sway […]

Functional Design Tips For A Small Bathroom

Dreaming of a spacious state-of-the-art bathroom but short on space? It’s that all-too-familiar feeling of one towel dropped on the floor and the place looks like a tip… But there are several ways that you can create a perfect bathroom haven for your home without planning an extension! Functionality first A bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house and even if it’s small, it needs to be functional.  Keep these functions in mind when choosing the sink, shower, bath tub and even the floor and wall decorations. But bathrooms are more than functional, they need to be a sanctuary to relax in at the end of a stressful day. Space saving furniture Can’t figure out how to place all of your bathroom furniture? Choose a corner sink to optimise space. A sink of this type is available in both pedestal and wall-mount options, and can help make the most of the space you have. You can also look into furniture options such as wall mounted cabinets or hanging shelves to optimise storage without cluttering the room. Bathroom cladding When working with a small space, bathroom cladding is the ideal way to maximise an area. Wall cladding is really easy to install, unlike tiles, and is perfect for busy households. This is due to the fact that cladding is so simple to clean, and the lack of grouting means that black mould is a thing of the past! Lighting Choosing the right lighting can transform a small bathroom. Dimming options look fantastic in alcoves or behind a bath to create a relaxing mood and can give the illusion of space. You also have the option of installing spotlights to give your bathroom a modern feel. Find the best layout If your room is verging on the small […]

Reactionary Design of Projek Raw Keeps Customers Coming Back

Designers who listen to their customers and react to what they want are few and far between. Designers are artists, and as such, many of them express themselves through their art, which sometimes leaves little room for including customers in the process. However, this is not the way that Projek Raw works. Founded in 2001, Projek Raw is for open-minded and spirited people. Projek Raw is committed to communicating with their customers. They want their customers to express exactly what they are looking forward to in the upcoming season so that there can be more individuality in their brand for their consumers – this is what keeps them coming back. Listening to Customers While it would seem that the smart thing for any business would be to listen and respond to their customers’ ideas, this is not always the case with larger brands. When it comes to an art form like clothing design, it may seem difficult for some artists to incorporate someone else’s ideas and thoughts into their own. However, Projek Raw makes this an essential part of their business model. They use consumer feedback as a way to develop and create their projects to ensure that every collection they release will not only meet the needs of their customers but their wishes. Young professional men love Projek Raw for more than their urban style and sleek designs. Men want clothes that are not only comfortable but fresh and current. They don’t want to look like everyone else who shops at the local mall and big box stores. They want to express their style and individuality through their clothing. Projek Raw allows them this kind of freedom. Projek Raw seeks consumer feedback because they want to design distinct and unique clothing for men. The CEO and founder of Projek […]

The Trendiest & Tastiest Coffees You Can Buy Today

Coffee is very trendy right now.  IIt’s weird to think of a drink being fashionable, but it is. If you don’t drink coffee, people almost think of you as uncultured, which is pretty  bizarre. With our love for coffee and its meteoric rise in popularity, brands are going out of their way to create some incredible coffees. The quality of coffee nowadays compared to what was on offer 15 years ago is almost staggering. Grumpy Mule Tanzania Footprint Tanzania is home to the world famous Peaberry beans and they turn that into one of the most delicious coffees on the market. This coffee has won the prestigious (apparently) Great Taste award three times now. £4.75 is all it costs to get your hands on 227 grams of pure delight. Origin Coffee Gatomboya Coffee Factory If you like your coffee with a few more flavours thrown in for good measure than this one is for you. Boasting a wide array of fruity flavours this coffee manages to balance them without becoming cloying, which other brands often fail to do. The only issue is that a 250 gram bag of this stuff will set you back £10.50. Jamaican Blue Mountain Jamaica produces the best coffee on the planet according to the experts (actually, just us) and this stuff is the region’s crowning glory. We can’t really say too much about this coffee without resorting to a string of superlatives, so all we will say is just try it for yourself and taste the rich goodness. Oh yeah, one downside, it costs £39.99 for 250 grams. Trust us though, it’s worth it. Carluccios’s Caffe Milano Espresso If you like something cheaper and quicker, then you can’t go wrong with this Italian espresso. Italians love espresso almost as much as they like pasta. This is an […]

5 Tips For Travelling In Style

Even for the most experienced traveller, knowing what to wear and what to pack can be difficult.  So, whether you’re planning to travel for several weeks or for a weekend, it’s essential you’re well versed with the tricks of the trade to ensure you travel in style. Most important? Keep your wardrobe simple and functional. But of course, there’s more to it than that. Here are some tips to help you travel like a fashionable professional…. 1. Plan in advance Avoid throwing things in your travel bag or suitcase at the last minute. It can create much confusion later on. You can travel fashionably by planning and making list of your essentials well in advance. Research your destination to know what type of clothes and other accessories will be required, so that you dress comfortably and appropriately. Use travel sites such as HolidayMe.com and TripAdvisor for help. Consider the culture, customs and weather of the country while making a list of the things required – research is the key for planning in advance. 2. Mix and match Incorporate a number of basics and stylish separates in your holiday wardrobe that can be easily dressed up or down according to the occasion. Choose versatile pieces, not only to get the most wear out of your outfits but to avoid having to repeat the same frocks over and over again.  3. Keep Accessories To A Minimum Opt for statement accessories that’ll complement most of your outfit options. Carrying lots of jewellery can be pretty annoying, so be selective with your choices. Gold hoops, bold necklaces, a couple of cocktail rings and your favourite bracelet should do.  4. Grooming Keeping hair and makeup as flawless as it was before travelling isn’t easy but it’s not impossible either. Stay clear of high maintenance hairstyles and keep it simple. The […]

Eyeglasses or Laser Eye Surgery: What’s The Best Option?

There’s no denying that maintaining good eyesight is of utmost importance. And it’s essential that we’re aware of what exactly can do damage to our eyesight – whether it’s too much exposure to light or dust, which can affect the eyes internally. Unfortunately, there are people who often go through many eye problems. The common three being Myopia (Short Sight), Hyperopia (long-sight) and Astigmatism (cornea) which either require individuals to wear glasses or undergo eye surgery. Which is best? Eyeglasses or Laser Eye Surgery?  The most common option are glasses due to the cost – they’re far cheaper than undergoing surgery and sadly although insurance plans offer discounts they don’t fully cover the entire cost of eye surgery. If you do go down the glasses route, the process isn’t too complicated and thankfully there are multiple brands that offer different types of stylish options of glasses.  Head to your nearest optician for an eye examination and a prescription for glasses to suit your condition. The whole process should take within 3-4 days. Laser Eye Surgery: Laser eye surgery in comparison to glasses is considerably costly and requires both care before and after surgery hence why it’s essential to do your research. We opted for optilase.co.uk for our surgery, but there are a number of reputable laser eye surgeons out there. So make sure you do your homework first.  While laser eye surgery is more expensive initially, in the long run you avoid the costs associated with glasses such as: Saving hundreds of pounds on the renewal of contact lenses and glasses Saving time associated with multiple fittings and appointments   If you find the idea of wearing glasses to be an inconvenience, then laser eye surgery is for you (but not if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding have cataracts or a vascular disease problem). There is also an […]

Ryan Gosling Is A Feminist. Could He Be Any More Perfect?

Waking up to see Ryan Gosling on your Instagram feed is literally pure joy! Scrolling through, (as you do first thing in the morning), we were more than happy to see Ryan on  the cover of the Evening Standard Magazine and we couldn’t wait to have a read of what the man himself had to say. Being a father of two daughters, it turns out  the actor has some strong opinions about us women, which  shouldn’t be a surprise considering he’s loved by 99.99% of the female population. Here’s our fave quotes from the interview… On being objectified in the same way as women… “It’s our time as men to be on the receiving end of the stick. I grew up with women so I’ve always been aware of it. When my mother and I walked to the grocery store, men would circle the block in cars. It was very scary, especially as a young boy. Very predatory; a hunt.” On being in touch with his feminine side… “I’d say 49 per cent, sometimes 47 per cent, it depends on what day you catch me.” On women in general… “I think women are better than men…They are stronger. More evolved. You can tell especially when you have daughters and you see their early stages, they are just leaps and bounds beyond boys immediately.” Ryan we loved you before..and it’s safe to say we love you even more now!

How to Create A Beautiful Nursery For A New Baby

Becoming a parent for the first time is a scary business. There is so much to think about: choosing a name, writing a birth plan, deciding whether or not to take a career break after the birth. The list is endless, but one thing you need to complete before baby is born is the nursery. Once your baby arrives, you won’t have time to prepare a nursery because you will be too busy taking care of your little one. To start with, your baby will probably sleep in your room, but once they are a few months old, it is time to move them into their own room so you can both sleep better. Here is a quick guide to creating the perfect nursery for your precious little bundle of joy. Decide on a Sensible Budget You should decide right from the beginning of the project how much you can afford to spend. Be sensible here, as although you probably want your baby to have the perfect nursery, they will grow very quickly and it won’t be long before you have to start all over again. Design a Layout Work out the best position for the furniture using measurements and a scale drawing on a piece of paper. This will help you plan the rest of the design scheme. Stimulate the Senses Small babies can’t see very far, but there are lots of things you can do to stimulate their senses. Many parents paint their baby’s nursery in pastel colours, but research has shown that babies can see sharply defined geometric shapes and patterns a lot better. Use contrasting colours and patterns on the walls to stimulate your baby’s brain development. You can also hang brightly coloured mobiles over his cot, but make sure he can’t reach them with his […]

Can You Guess Which Engagement Ring He Will Choose?

When you know he is going to pop the ‘big question’ (you’re convinced!), so many thoughts come to mind. Where will it happen? How will he surprise you? Do your parents know? So, so many questions… and the suspense only builds when it comes to the most crucial question of all: What will the ring look like?! Will it suit your style?! Will it be a classic ring? A custom ring? What diamond shape will he choose? The options for engagement rings is (seemingly) endless these days, making this question not such an “easy” one. That said, one can always use their imagination, and we may have found a way to ‘guess’ what ring your love decides to purchase for you… based on their personality! After all, you know your partner well (we hope!), so perhaps they fit into one of these categories… and the ring will prove it! True Traditional Does your spouse remind you of the long and beloved characters from the many romantic classics, bringing you flowers, leaving loving notes to be found? Maybe he pictures his future with you in a beautiful home, graced by a blooming garden, all set with a white picket fence? If this sounds accurate, it’s safe to say your partner could be defined as the ‘True traditional’, or in other words, the ‘Hopeless romantic’. Given his love for tradition, there is a high chance you will find your ring finger graced with a classic diamond on a gold band; the original representation of ‘true love’! The ‘Flasher’ Don’t panic… we aren’t referring to the idea of your spouse running naked through the streets (as some may have possibly done in Uni). We mean a different kind of ‘flash’ – the guy who has it all, in top quality. The best car, […]

4 Essential Tips On Getting Fit This Summer

New Year resolutions about getting healthy get all the publicity, but arguably the summer is a better time to decide to make life changes for the better. The weather lets us get out and about so exercise in the open air becomes an attractive option and there is such a yummy selection of healthy food available. But how best to make use of this opportunity? Here’s four top ideas: 1.Get active. Yes it’s obvious, but the health benefits of exercise are undeniable. It has to be energetic enough to raise your heart rate though, so at least be thinking of a brisk walk, swim or cycling expedition. If you are physically able to start regular jogging (and of course always consult your doctor or health professional before embarking on any exercise regime) then modern technology may make it a lot more rewarding. For instance, many smart watches have functions to monitor distance, calories burnt and so on, but there are also great exercise apps for your smart phone that will do the same sort of thing, as well as tracking your run, storing statistics to chart your progress and enabling you to share that spectacular personal best on Facebook! 2. Try something new It is easy to get bored or de-motivated, especially in the early stages when it seems all effort and little gain. So try a number of activities to see what suits you; like dance classes, aerobics or spin. If you’re not so keen on high impact exercise, yoga is a meditative and relaxing exercise, as is swimming. 3. Stop smoking If you are still struggling to quit then again, technology may be able to offer a hand. E-cigarettes are becoming familiar now to many people. They produce none of the smoke associated with traditional cigarettes and they […]

Naomi Campbell, Daisy Lowe, and more celebs lead the “Wake Up Call” challenge

Your Facebook timelines and Twitter feeds may have finally stopped being full of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos from your friends and celebs, but that might be about to change pretty soon. The UNICEF Wake Up Call Challenge has been dubbed the new Ice Bucket Challenge, and requires participants to snap a picture of themselves first thing in the morning. It’s pretty similar to the No Make-Up Selfie challenge that took the internet by storm earlier this year, but the charity is hoping that more men will take part in this one. And let’s not forget the real and most important reason for doing this. Introducing the ‘Fashion Conscious Blogging’ scheme courtesy of Frey de Fleur

It’s no secret that we love our job here at My Fashion Life. We, along with any other blogger who puts their fingers to keyboard and writes about what’s important to them, love how we can connect with men and women on a global scale, and as a result, influence them in many ways. From helping you with Christmas gifts to introducing you to the newest designer collections to sharing breaking news and everything else in-between, we’re here for you and always appreciate the great feedback we get from happy readers and shoppers alike. However, not all blogging is about fashion and the material things in life, which is why the idea of Fashion Conscious Blogging (more on this later!) is something we are happy to get on board with and encourage fellow bloggers to follow in our footsteps and do the same. Last week, we had the pleasure of being invited to the Jam Tree on the swanky King’s Road by blogger Freya Bromley (of the fab blog Frey de Fleur) to discuss the Fashion Conscious Blogging scheme which she founded. The event was held to raise money for the Rainbow Trust children’s charity – a charity close to Freya’s heart as it helped her and her family cope when her younger brother Tom was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Not that you’d know it by looking at him – with his bursts of energy and positive outlook on life, he was a true inspiration whose presence we felt honoured to be in that evening. A host of bloggers, press, PRs and famous faces were in attendance to lend their support to the wonderful cause – something which Freya hopes will expand as the years go on… “I am pledging to host two events each […]

How to perfect your online dating profile

Your online dating profile is a window into your personality for potential partners and a chance to see if you are what they’re looking for in a relationship. A fun, light hearted, and sometimes awkwardly honest profile topped off with a recent and complimentary headshot will capture the attention of other users. But is the real attraction simply your picture alone? We’re all shallow creatures really and are essentially only attracted to good-looking things. Sad, but true. The words you use on your profile are still important though for when a prospective partner decides to click through, so don’t just rely solely on your thumbnail image. Honesty is the best policy – just try to refrain from being too negative with it. Remember, your profile isn’t a CV or an application for a major job position, so treat it casually and write in a chatty style. Don’t overdo it on the wit though, a little humour is good, but if you are slapping in a pun or an innuendo every five minutes it will seem forced and users will tire of reading. Mention your social life (no matter how active or inactive it is) and what you like to do with friends. If you like to stay at home and read or binge watch series on Netflix that’s perfectly fine. People seem to have a misconception that to be deemed interesting you must be out of the house, all the time, doing something new every weekend. But if you do like rock climbing, let the world know – you might bond with someone over a mutual passion for the activity. If you’re a Star Wars fanatic then that’s also good to mention. It’s all about finding someone with the same interests, so don’t even consider those people who might judge […]

Bottega Veneta introduces women’s sneakers

Is there anything Bottega Veneta hasn’t done? We once thought the answer to that question was “women’s slip on sneakers” but that’s not the case anymore, as the brand has just launched a fab collection of, you guessed it, women’s slip on sneakers. Now women can enjoy the luxury of those slip on sneakers that Bottega Veneta men had been enjoying for many years before – hooray for equality! The collection hasn’t been feminised too much though, as the exclusive design a reinterpretation of the iconic men’s classic sneaker. The sneakers either come in tone on tone black or white, and feature refined lines and feminine proportions. The way we see it is they’re just like the men’s ones – but better! You can get your hands and feed on the collection exclusively on bottegaveneta.com and at the Bottega Veneta London Sloanhe boutiques – or if you’re heading abroad, then the Milan Sant’Andrea, New York Madison, and Tokyo Ginza stores.

Nude pics of Jennifer Lawrence and other celebs leak after iCloud hack

Another day, another controversial hacking scandal; and this time it looks like Jennifer Lawrence and a host of other female celebs are the victims. Apparently some nude photos of our beloved Jennifer Lawrence have been leaked after an iCloud hack. The pictures were posed on a 4chan thread in an attempt to earn bitcoins – but we won’t be posting them or linking to the thread for obvious reasons… “This is a flagrant violation of privacy,” a spokesperson told Buzzfeed. “The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.” And it doesn’t look like she is alone either, as it’s emerged that Kate Upton, Ariana Grande, Victoria Justice, Selena Gomez, and Rihanna (among so many others) have also had their privacy violated. However, many of the celebs affected are disputing the validity of the supposed ‘nude’ pics, with Victoria Justice taking to Twitter to assure her fans that her pictures aren’t real… “These so called nudes of me are FAKE people. Let me nip this in the bud right now. *pun intended*,” she Tweeted. Real or not, we don’t think any of these ladies are going to take this hack lying down. We doubt this will be the last we year of this latest hacking scandal, so we’ll keep you posted when more information comes to light. [Independent]

Is Facebook ruining your love life?

With over 1.28 billion active monthly users, Facebook is the master when it comes to connecting people. But is the social media site actually allowing people to connect and see too much, and is this ultimately ruining your love life? Facebook allows users to share anything and everything they could dream of with their friends, or publicly. The network was essentially created so people could connect with their friends, but sometimes these friends can cause trouble on the site when it comes to relationships; making awkward comments on statuses and uploading photos you’d rather a new partner didn’t see yet. To be perfectly frank, specialized dating sites such as MySinglefriend.com, which has received some great online reviews, are the place to promote your love life – not on social media where everyone can see. An issue can also arise when people become ‘Facebook official’. We’ve all seen ‘John Smith is now in a relationship with Jane Doe’ pop up on our news feed and we’ve all written “congratulations” or “I’m so happy for you” on this status, which was in fact created by Facebook – not the couple involved in the actual relationship. Alternatively if you simply wish to remain a little more private and remove your relationship status from your profile, Facebook will announce that you are no longer with that person. Expect to be bombarded with sympathy wishes and people telling you how ‘they didn’t like (your partner) anyway’. It’s awkward for everyone. You would think that with access to so much information there would never be an issue with knowing what a person is up to, or how they are feeling, when Facebook is involved. However, those with partners of a slightly jealous disposition will find that they can’t like a selfie of someone of the opposite […]

Five minutes with TK Maxx creative director Catrina Funk

TK Maxx is our saviour when we want a high end piece of clothing for that all-important night out, or just to pad out our wardrobes but don’t quite fancy paying high end prices. And it doesn’t look like we are the only ones! TK Maxx is becoming more and more popular with bargain hunters and savvy fashionistas alike – and with new designer pieces spontaneously dropping into the various stores up and down the country on a daily basis, it isn’t hard to see why. To coincide with the TK Maxx ‘Me by Me’ autumn/winter 2014 ad campaign – a continuation of the ground-breaking, boundary-stretching and immensely popular ‘Me by Me’ spring/summer 2014 ad campaign which featured real life TK Maxx shoppers – we decided to grab creative director Cat Funk for a five minute chat about the campaign, the concept, and the future of one of our favourite stores. Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for an exclusive preview of the autumn/winter 2014 ad campaign in a few months’ time – we guarantee it’s going to be a good’un!   For anyone living under a rock, can you briefly explain what the Me by Me campaign is all about? It’s really about individuality, and celebrating that everyone has a unique sense of style; so celebrating people and individuality… What made you want to go in this direction? A couple of things – we’ve been doing street casting for years actually, so we’re quite a unique brand, a different kind of store. We have our own sense of who we are wanted a campaign to fit in with that. Really we just wanted to celebrate the shoppers and show that everyone is different and everyone has something to celebrate about themselves. Were you worried it wouldn’t be well […]

Now you can have a Cher Horowitz technological Clueless wardrobe too!

Clueless has taught us many things. It brought new meaning to the term “as if!”, told us that Alaia was a “totally important designer”, and showed us the proper way to apply lipstick… but the best thing to come out of Clueless (apart from Paul Rudd, obviously) was Cher’s computer-operated revolving wardrobe. Pretty technologically advanced for its time, no? Well, excellent news for all Cher Horowitz fans, as her dreamy revolving closet has actually become our reality, all thanks to online technology company Metail.com. The virtual shopping platform has been developed by Tom Adeyoola and Duncan Robertson, who also worked closely with Cambridge University, and has been a work in progress since 2008. So how does it work? It basically lets users create their own Cher, and dress her in their own unique way; once she’s all dolled up and good to go, the finishing results can be shared with friends for that all important second opinion. “We know through feedback that the ‘share’ option is key to moving our user experience forward,” Tom Adeyoola explained. “Sharing outfit combinations with friends for comment and advice in the same way that consumers shop for clothing on the high street has been a key experience missing from the online shopping experience, until now.” Although Cher’s wardrobe has some pretty high end designers from Calvin Klein to Azzedine Alaia in it, the Metail one uses slightly more affordable clothes from Warehouse, Tesco and Zalando to name just three. However, we predict that the platform will be a huge success, meaning more and more brands – high end and high street – will be available too. Watch this space! [Vogue]

JW Anderson launches his first website

Fresh from debuting his spring/summer 2015 menswear line at London Collections: Men this morning, JW Anderson has also announced that he will be launching his very first website. Exciting news all round! “Opening an e-commerce website is a natural step for us,” the designer told British Vogue. “Our database is young and our impact is around social media, so it feels right to be finally embracing our customer in this way.” “We’ve developed such a strong following over the years that we have turned into a cult brand and our customers have wanted to have something more from us. I like this idea when all the aspects of the business are streamed together so that people can see a full demographic. It’s so much more personal and, as we’re a very open company, it’s so important to integrate comment from us.” The site will reportedly feature all the current campaign shots, all the looks from his catwalk shows, product shots, social media feeds, a blog managed by JW Anderson himself (nice and personal!), and merchandise available exclusively the website.  Thankfully launching an e-commerce website isn’t as difficult as it once was and if you’ve been dreaming of having your very own online store, there’s no time like the present. With a wealth of professionals on hand, you’re literally spoilt for choice. For responsive web design in essex, try Essex Web Design Studio. Make sure you do your homework first however. Amanda Seyfried rocks Melissa Odabash bikini for Elle UK June cover

It’s ten years to the day (ok, yesterday was!) since Mean Girls was released, and we’re pretty excited that perhaps our favourite character of the film has made it onto the Elle UK June issue. Amanda Seyfried was beautifully shot by Kai Z Feng, and is wearing – nay, rocking – a Melissa Odabash bikini and a fierce jacket by Roberto Cavalli. Inside the mag, Amanda is posing in everything from Saint Laurent to Michael Kors to many more in-between, and opens up about food, sex, therapy, and being a little nosey about what people are saying about her… “Sometimes I read the feed where people are talking about me,” she says about Twitter. “I want to see what people have posted. “Like, if I have a weird conversation with someone in the street and they take a picture of me, sometimes I want to see whether they put it online – it’s stupid, I shouldn’t really. I have a healthy curiosity.” We think any celeb would be lying if they said they didn’t have a shred of curiosity about what the world is saying about them! You can read the rest of Amanda’s super-honest interview in the Elle UK June issue – out today!

Lily Allen covers Glamour UK’s June issue, talks about missing “free clothes and handbags”

June magazine covers are already starting to emerge, and we’re pretty excited that Glamour UK has chosen Miss Lily Allen (or Mrs Lily Rose Cooper if we’re being technical) as its June cover star. And it looks like she has waved goodbye to the multi-coloured hair and gone for a more natural – yet equally, if not more striking – colour instead. Lily Allen doesn’t beat around the bush which is why she makes a great interviewee. We love the answers she gave when she was asked about the real reason she returned to the music industry and the limelight. A girl after our own hearts… “I wasn’t good at staying at home all day, it didn’t suit me. I’m creative, it’s just who I am,” she told the mag. “I missed the positive feedback about my music from my fans. I missed the rush of performing. I missed the free clothes and handbags and the good tables in posh restaurants. I did!” We’ve seen Lily toting more than a few covetable handbags in her time (Chanel included) so we totally don’t blame her! You can read the rest of her interview and see her pose for more pics in Glamour UK’s June issue, out Monday.

WATCH: LFW AW14 highlights from Temperley London, Mary Katrantzou & more

MARY KATRANTZOU AW14 COLLECTION She may have been dubbed the digital print queen by way of her hypnotising design USP of seasons past, but Mary Katrantzou took a refreshing detour this season. Dizzying print work was replaced by symbols that held a deeper meaning; school badges, medals, clock faces, a coat of arms all made an appearance, intricately embroidered onto fuzzy sweatshirts, patchworked onto maxi skirts and running down pleated gowns to resemble a holy vestment. Suits cut in jacquard are set to become the fashion set’s new favourites, and one in particular – a bird-print skirt suit with pleated gym-skirt – demanded attention. Delicate slips dresses with hook straps featured a metal mesh adorned with gold-tone hearts, squares and pearls, tricking onlookers into believing they were admiring an art installation. Well, we were certainly in awe. TEMPERLEY LONDON AW14 COLLECTION Temperley London may hail from the leafy enclaves of Somerset, but, designer Alice Temperley didn’t stick to the quiet side for autumn/winter ’14. Bringing her signature decorative style to the table, Byzantine architecture-inspired prints were splashed across unbuttoned coats, tightly belted at the waist. Pretty skirt suits were updated with a boxier silhouette, while stained glass-imitating laser prints prettily played out across red carpet worthy dresses. New for this season, however, was the concept of layering luxe evening looks: an oversize fur stole in a fluffy peach hue was breathtaking over a shawl and barely there gown; while neck scarves, outerwear and shawls daubed in striking floral prints were the accessory du jour to seek protection from the winter chill. Just perfect. RICHARD NICOLL AW14 COLLECTION As blue emerges to be the hue of the hour for next season, Richard Nicoll didn’t hold back in feeding our appetite for the coldest shade-gone-hot. School girl attire-gone-haute was the message here, […]

Is anyone really fit to replace Anna Wintour?

You might consider our proposition insane, if somewhat impossible, but it could totally happen. If the “new” age for women retiring in the UK is realistically lingering in the seventies, then Anna Wintour isn’t too far off. At 64, the impeccably bobbed, Manolo-clad Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue faultlessly oozes that polished glamour so many of us can only dream of inhaling from the printer-fresh pages of our monthly subscription Yet, what begins must end, and recent rumours speculating Wintour’s retirement have got the style set buzz-chatting – some with confusion, others with a glimmer of excitement at whom might be deemed worthy to take the helm of the world’s grandest fashion institution. So, instead of suffering sleepless, sweaty nights figuring out what will happen to the physical impression Anna has left on her regular FROW spot – if she ever decides to hang up that Prada fur coat – we’ve gathered our heavy-hearted thoughts and picked out five possible replacements. Yes, human replacements, not some page-flicking robot with impossible-to-attain hair. Having said that, who knows what the future holds? The WAG-turned-wardrobe queen: Victoria Beckham Churning out winning runway ensemble, season-on-season, VB knows a thing or two about what makes winning fashion editorial content. It doesn’t hurt that she’s permanently well-dressed, backed up by a good-looking brood and a super-successful, hunk-in-pants husband. Her consistency, business-meet-fashion discipline and taste for luxury could easily put her in the pool of potentials. Carries comes to life: Sarah Jessica Parker Hey, hey! Wintour’s bestie (they enjoy “private dinners” on the regular), Sarah Jessica Parker, is possibly the closest suspect we’ll get to having an A-lister take the reigns after Anna. Although the actress has denied all rumours about replacing the powerful editor-in-chief, they do share a love for fashion fundraisers, Manolos and pretty dresses. Kate Boss. Not Moss: She’s […]

Is the Madonna-Miley collaboration another justification of over sexualisation?

Apart from looking freakishly similar – despite the 34-year age gap – the cowgirl outfit-clad MTV Unplugged collaboration that involved a Madonna-Miley gyration session before a bunch of fans hardly brought the shock factor. The surprisingly soft-toned live performance, “gentle” grinding and a wobbly-vocal mash-up of Madonna’s “Don’t Tell Me” and Cyrus’ smash hit “We Can’t Stop” seemed to capture the on-looking audience, but we sensed something a little more sinister at play. Not one to shy away from making headlines – who can forget that Madge-Brit smooch at the 2003 VMAs? – Madonna’s recently been covering column inches with her un-parent like behaviour. From using inappropriate captions on Instagram to allowing her 13-year-old son to pose with a bottle of alcohol, she courts controversy with ease. And, then there’s Miley; the 21-year-old world-famous for her brazen display of provocative behaviour, very little clothing and a tongue that refuses to be put to bed (inside her mouth). So, what do these two ladies acting in a sexualised manner on stage mean for their legion of fans, most of whom are either young girls or women? Well, given Madonna’s old enough to be her mother, we feel as though Miley’s performance was overshadowed by the sheer control (or lack thereof) Madonna displayed when grinding against the “Adore You” singer. After all, she’s a mother, in the public eye, and with a greater onus on her to portray herself as a positive role model. Yet here she is egging on Miley’s ostentatious on-screen personality, by joining in with a cringe-inducing wind ‘n’ grind session and, to an extent, justifying the over sexualisation of girls Miley is often associated with. Although there’s nothing outwardly wrong with what Madonna was doing upon that stage; it was her partner in grind (sorry, we had to) who […]

Five Things You Wouldn’t Expect To Find In the Bedroom: Innovative Design Tips

Your home is like your sanctuary; it’s the one place you get to relax, forget about the rest of the world and just be yourself … but in order to do this, it needs to be designed to fit your preferences and lifestyle. One part of the home that you should pay particular attention to is the bedroom. If you’re looking for something a little different then here are a few ideas that can help. 1. Real tree décor One completely unique design tip for the bedroom is to make use of real tree branches. This doesn’t mean planting a tree in a plant pot but using treated, cut tree branches to add a natural design element to the room. A good example of this would be using birch tree branches to create a four poster bed, but you can also display smaller branches and twigs in a vase as a decorative alternative to fresh flowers. 2. Fish tanks and relaxation One thing that can really help create a relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom is a decorative fish tank. There are many ways you can incorporate a fish tank into the room – you could have one placed in a freestanding position, set into a recess in the wall or even built into the bottom of your bed! 3. Neon lights If you’re looking for a cool, relaxed theme, why not consider neon lights? There’s something about bright neon lights that produces a unique, pleasurable atmosphere. You can have them around the bed, around mirrors or as wall lights around the room. 4. A bath This is definitely one of the more unique ideas, yet it can be really romantic. If you take a look at top hotels, they’ll often feature baths in the bedroom. It’s sensual and adds a […]

What is fashion? Is it art, culture, or advertising?

What do you imagine when someone utters the word ‘fashion’? Unadulterated glamour? Power? Exploitation, maybe? It’s something we’ve recently been pondering, given our affection for this industry, and a term that holds a specific, heartfelt meaning for each of us. In the opening scenes of the 1998 film, Gia – a biopic that trails the tragic life of supermodel Gia Carangi, whose meteoric rise to modelling fame in the late 1970s, and equally rapid demise into a dark world of addiction shocked the fashion world – the character of Anna Wintour sums up the heartbreaking narrative of the film – and Gia’s fate – in one sweeping statement: “Fashion isn’t art. It’s not even culture. Fashion is advertising. And for every dollar you earn, someone pays the price.” Knockout words from the mouth of the monster lady of fashion, but do they hold any truth? Gia’s character, played by a dewy-eyed Angelina Jolie, almost convinces us of their accuracy. Disturbed, overworked and, at the zenith of her career, drug-addled, young Gia can’t seem to escape from this vicious schedule; a merry-go-round of pushy agents, roguish photographers, and a disregarding mother who isn’t phased by her daughter’s drug habit and downward spiral. Gia ultimately appears to pay the price. But how true are Wintour’s words? And who really pays the price? To work it out, we have to look at her statement in its component parts. What is fashion? Magazine editors tell us that these tomes serve an inspirational purpose; isn’t this exactly what art does? We’re taken with a captivating canvas, just as we are with a shoot featuring new season wares in a far-flung locale. Magazines tell us what to watch, where to dine, and what to read; that’s culturing the discerning fashion consumer, who wants to be seen […]

Mariah Carey divides opinion on the BET Black Girls Rock stage

Mariah Carey’s pretty blessed in both vocal range and curve departments, and it looks like she has more self-confidence than most current musical artists put together; that’s why it doesn’t surprise us to see her wearing this very risqué Alexander McQueen ensemble on the BET Black Girls Rock stage at the weekend. She previously wore the dress on American Idol at the beginning of the year and got very positive feedback about it – we were just one of many gushing about it – so we totally get why she wanted to wear it again. This time around she decided to slice and dice it and wear a cropped top instead of the slightly more conservative top in a matching print. While she totally nailed it the first time around, we don’t think wearing an ill-fitting black cropped top was the right decision on this occasion. Regardless of the cropped top blunder though, she still looks gorgeous and her hair and make-up were flawless, as always. We wouldn’t expect anything less from the ultimate musical diva! Do you admire Mariah Carey’s sartorial decision or should she have covered up and gone with something else? Let us know your thoughts! [Image]

Ellie Goulding “doesn’t care” what you thought of her Julien Macdonald X Factor dress

Almost a week after she first debuted it on the X Factor stage, the world is still talking about the barely-there dress Ellie Goulding wore to perform in on Sunday night. We loved the sparkly slashed Julien Macdonald number, and thought it was just right for the stage, but not everyone agreed. The dress received a lot of backlash on social media, but Ellie Goulding wants everyone to know that she doesn’t care. She felt special in it, and that’s all that matters to her. “My stylist finds me the most amazing things,” she began. “There was a choice of dresses and I just felt the best in that one. “I felt so special and I don’t care what anyone says. I wanted to take it up a level.” We don’t think the 26-year-old singer sounds too upset about all the negative Twitter feedback, do you? If everyone had her confidence and attitude, the world would be a far better place! [Telegraph]

The phenomenon of the the boob job boom

There’s been a boom in breast augmentation surgeries aka boob jobs. Despite the recession statistics reveal a whopping 35% increase in operations of this kind from 2012 to 2013. Now socially acceptable enough for Kelly Rowland to finally admit to having a little help in the chest area herself, there is no longer a stigma attached to the “boob job”….for a more insightful look into the phenomenon check out the blog MYA Space over at cosmetic surgery company mya.co.uk So why are more women opting for boob jobs? With a wide range of padded bras available on the market, that use everything from foam inserts to gel layers and air pumps to create a fuller chest, why are so many women deciding that they want to undergo breast enhancement surgery? For many, simply looking better when fully dressed isn’t enough, they want a more permanent solution and one that will make them feel just as confident with their clothes off as on. Patients who have undergone this type of surgery have reported a range of benefits, such as: • Increased self-esteem • A more symmetrical appearance to their breasts or body as a whole • Increased confidence • Increased feelings of femininity • Improving the appurtenance of their figure following pregnancy or breastfeeding • The ability to wear the clothing and underwear that they felt were previously unsuitable Some people may be surprised to learn that the United Kingdom is seeing a large increase in the number of women over forty who are opting to undergo breast augmentations. Unlike their younger counterparts, who often opt for this surgery to enhance a naturally flat chest, older women are often seeking to regain the size, shape and pertness they had in their breasts when they were younger or before they had children. How to select art for your home

If you’ve just bought a new home or just want to jazz up your existing one with a funky, chic and expensive piece of artwork but don’t know where to start, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve simplified the process for you – check out our tips below for selecting art for your home and let us know if you have any more questions. Do your research. Sounds pretty simple but you’ll be surprised how many people go out to buy art without having a clue and end up getting completely overwhelmed. Visit local art galleries and school art shows to familiarise yourself with different types of art and discover what you really like. If you want to know where to find oil paintings for sale, Saatchi Online would be a good place to start. Check the source. If you’re spending big money on a piece of artwork, you don’t want to find out years down the line that you were ripped off and actually bought a fake. This is particularly important if you’re buying your art online from sites like eBay for example. While many reputable artists do indeed sell their work online, so do the fraudsters, so make sure you check the feedback and interact with the seller before you buy. There’s no such thing as “too many questions”. Think of where to put it. Deciding where you’re going to put your new piece of artwork is just as important as the artwork itself. Make sure you have the room for it, and make sure it complements the surrounding décor. If you want to make art the main focus of the room or hallway, play down all the other part of the room such as the window carpet and furniture. Keep the colour scheme simple because a […]

A prime example of smart casual courtesy of Eva Longoria

Going out to dinner with the boyfriend or to a show with the girls but not quite sure what to wear? Perhaps you have to make a mad dash for it after work and you haven’t got time to change? If you find yourself in this sartorial predicament and are a bit stumped for outfit ideas, we’d like to refer you to Eva Longoria’s latest look for inspiration. The pint sized former Desperate Housewives actress got the smart/casual/sexy balance just right when she was spotted out in LA the other night on her way to celeb-fave Katsuya. She proved that you don’t need to always go for a tight fitting dress or pile on the accessories to turn on the glam factor, as she looked effortlessly chic in a pair of white trousers, a smart loose-fitting printed blouse and wow-worthy Brian Atwood sandals. The shoes definitely did the talking as far as this ensemble was concerned – no one can deny the power of a fierce pair of heels! Taking a fab but versatile pair of heels into the office for last-minute outfit changes is not only advised, but heartily encouraged if you often find yourself rushing off somewhere dressier after work. We love the cute hairband, too! [Image]

The (un)importance of the skinny male model

Desensitised to seeing otherworldly bodies stretched across the pages of our favourite glossies, mooching on the size zero debate doesn’t really illicit the same reaction it used to. Media, advertising and popular culture all promote the ‘ideal’ physique, leaving many women so baffled by the (lack of) choice, that when a new(ish) target arrives on the fashion scene, we’re a little oblivious to its reception. Continuing to gallop ahead at frightening speed on his high (end) horse, Mr. Hedi Slimane decidedly caused a stir during the menswear spring 2014 shows. Casting a range of near-malnourished, almost elongated elfin-looking boys caused for much heated debate this week, with noted writer Tim Blanks of Style.com dubbing the Saint Laurent line-up as ‘wasp-waisted, shrunken-chested boy band members‘, suffering from the famed rock ‘n’ roll ‘appetite deprivation.’ Alluding, almost, to the emaciated bodies of bygone rock stars, with his most recent (distant) muses being found in the likes of sweaty, failed public bodies such as Pete Doherty and Blake Fielder-Civil, it almost appears as though Slimane doesn’t see past a 24 inch waist when he takes to the drawing board with those skinny trews. The male models looked in need of a hearty meal, or three, but judging by the backlash to his choice of physique for the show, Hedi’s the winner here. Generating such hype for his latest collection by taking a fashion taboo and effectively toying with it to his heart’s content, Hedi almost forces us to ignore the real underlying issue here: the masculine side of the size zero debate. It’s not just the girls with shrunken waists, y’know. Criticised for sticking to his signature but dated drainpipe silhouette, the emphasis that critics have placed on his choices for this collection distract us from the fact that the boys are too […]

Dame Helen Mirren for Marks and Spencer?

If we are to believe reports that have been doing the rounds this morning, high street store Marks and Spencer has tapped none other than Dame Helen Mirren for a new ad campaign. She therefore be following in the footsteps of Twiggy, Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Myleene Klass. Pretty big news if it’s true, right? The rumours started when the actress was seen posing up a storm for Annie Leibovitz at St Katharine’s Docks in London at the weekend. She was also  joined by Katie Piper (the TV presenter turned charity campaigner who was the victim of a horrific acid attack in 2008) who is also thought to star alongside her in the new campaign M&S reps have decline to comment, but we really hope these rumours are true – keep your eyes peeled for more info as soon as we get it! Rihanna for River Island, take two: Here’s what we really think!

After enticing Ri-wannabe’s with her debut collection for River Island, the queen of everything is back with more fashion to feed our sartorial souls. Following her hotly anticipated London Fashion Week show, Rihanna’s summer collection for high street giant, River Island finally landed in stores and online on May 25, and after sizing up the fashion credentials of the superstar’s wares, we naturally weighed in with our own opinion. Celebrity-retail giant collaborations are often a frightening matter, with more questions circulating through the fashion press than pieces in the collection itself: did she/he design it? Is it a touch-and-go type of thing? It is even a real depiction of the celebrity in question? But Rihanna, a star in the off-stage style stakes without a doubt, knows a thing or two about constructing a dress to perfectly show of her envious bod, or how cropped a crop top should really be, in order to show the extent of work she’s putting in at the gym. Returning to the real stuff, the summer collection is a mix of staple pieces we often see the Bajan beauty sporting, punctuated with splashes of print, statement embellishment and jolts of colour. The collection really is the epitome of summer, with a lack of longer hemlines (probably owing to Rihanna’s love of flesh flashing), and nearly everything is either sheer, or sports a slit or a spindly strap. Much of the collection harks back to some iconic looks worn by Rihanna, which have now become a recognisable part of her signature style. Take the floral boys shorts, for example, which take us back Ri’s Alexander Wang leather shorts and tee look at the Battleship photo call in Sydney. Or the black stiletto sandals from the collection, which are reminiscent of Rihanna’s love affair with the Manolo […]
